PSP overheating? Freezes then shuts down.

My psp is acting funky. I put a 3.71 m33 on it and when i got it, it was bricked so i unbricked it. When i go to the XMB I can do things, but it freezes at times (30 seconds after turning on or less).
Then i figured out that it freezes when i push the left right up down (D pad) too much.
So if i go left right left right it will freeze in seconds then shut down. when I do everything slowly it works great. My first thought was overheating but then ruled it out when it only freezes when i move too fast on d pad.
Don't know what else to do. Everything is functioning. I searched and searched but no one has the same prob. I had tried fixing it by diagnosing it as semi-brick, but that didn't work. I don't think its semi-brick since it freezes in the recovery console when i move too much.
Any advice is appreciated. I made the post in paragraphs so it would be ez on the eyes.
Don't think im new to this site, just havent been here in a while so i lost my login. I was here like 6 years ago LOL back when we were modding ps2's.

Did you buy it second hand from someone?
If so is the sticker still intact or does it look like it's been opened up before.
I'm just guessing here but I know that if you try to repair a psp sound/wifi/memory stick board with the incorrect version it will get pretty hot to the touch in the back where the board is installed behind the d-pad. The only problem with what I'm thinking is that you said it only happens when you touch the d-pad but I figured I'd take a stab at it.

Well the seal had never been broken (unless he put it back on somehow) but the reason i broke the seal originally was because i saw the cushion for the lcd screen in the window. They did a bad job of glueing the cushion on the lcd and i can see it through the psp screen. So i took it apart and tried to move it, but it didnt budge. So that's why i thought it had been opened or tampered with lol.
Also i never applied a theme to it. I didn't do any homebrewing or anything. Just installed it, put in a game and played and it froze. From then on it kept freezing when i moved the arrows to fast.
Weird little issue.
And it doesn't get hot at all. I even opened the disc tray to smell if it was hot or something but no. no heating at all. weiiiirrrd.

Try updating to either a new ofw or cfw. Search to find how.

Yeah i had tried everything. I updated to 3.9 then back to 3.71 (both m33) What's bothering me is that it isn't happening to anyone else's psp. I should sell it saying it works but freezes at times...... unless you guys have any brilliant ideas.!?
One other thing on my cousin's psp slim silver, i dont know what he did but his analog stick is out (just the cap) but the remaining stick is pushed in. The phat ones aren't pushed in that much but his seems to be in deep. The stick doesn't even stick out if u look at it from the side. Is it like that for slim or is it pushed in?

Maybe format your flash1 and 2 on your PSP. Back them up first though.
I'm not sure about flash3, I'm pretty sure it's important, so don't do anything there, unless you back it up too.
As for the other PSP, the nub sounds like it's pushed in.

I had tried formatting flash1 and resetting defaults in recovery console but it didn't solve it. Never tried flash2
other psp slim: can i pull it out without opening it or should i go ahead and break the seal lol.
EDIT: I tried changing cpu speed at xmb to 20 and when i push the buttons fast it doesnt freeze! What should I put the speed to on XMB and UMD?

Set the XMB clock speed to at least 300 mhz, but if that still freezes, try 333. Try opening flash2 and formatting after backing up.
Don't break the Slim seal, see if you can get a replacement from Sony.

froze at 300 and froze faster at 333. was good at 200 but is that slow? Also it takes like 3 swipes on average to turn the psp on. The green light blinks blinks turns on. maybe that will help.
how do i check how old the slim is for the warranty? it has 3.95 i think NOT CFW.
EDIT: i meant its good at 233

The lowest the PSP was officially was 222 mhz, but if it runs good enough at 200 for you, then go for it. Is it such a big deal to run through the XMB slow? Again, try to format your flashes.
The warrenty from the manufacturer is 1 year from purchase date, so all slims are still under it. Call Sony.

ok thanks and it isn't slow for me (at 233) also what do you think the umd should be? speed i mean. Also how does the switching of psp slim's go? Do they send me one then i send mine or what. I know its prepaid (i think). Also i dont have a receipt but i plan on saying i got it as a gift. hehe.

The UMD should be 333, since all new games run at that.
If they say you are under warrenty, then you send it in (you pay shipping) and they send you one free. If you are not under warrenty but still want service, it'll cost you $90.

This may be an issue if you're returning it to Sony under warranty. Having CFW on there won't help your cause either I'm afraid.
