How do I join two avi files together?

Ok first off, this is my first post in here so I am not too sure where I put this so bear with me.

I have a film that is in two parts. What i need help with is trying to join these two parts together and still maintaining audio with the finished product. I have tried this using Tmpgenc but at first it kept on giving me an error message saying 'streaming error'. So then I used Womble mpeg joiner or something like that but this time i got no audio.

My next thought was to join the two avi's together using VirtualDubMod but i got an error saying the audio samples were different meaning I could not join them together.

So I am wondering if I am able to fix or repair the audio sample of one of the parts so I am able to join the avi's together and then convert the joined avi into a mpeg2 dvd compliant file?

Are there any programmes out there that will let me fix or repair the audio streaming of one of the avi's so they match?

I hope I made this quite clear so that someone is able to help me.
