Can't set Display to HDMI?

Alright, I just bought an HDMI cord off of Ebay and tried to hook it up to my ps3. When I originally turned it on, it said it has detected an hdmi cord and if I wished to display it in HDMI. I select yes and the screen just goes black and doesn't change. After trying this 3 times, I said no and then went into Settings-Display Settings and tried turning HDMI on in there. Still nothing, the screen goes black for a few seconds and then returns to select Video Output Settings.

I have both my original YWR cords plugged in as well as my HDMI cord.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

What kind of tv do you have. Are you going through a receiver first or straight to the display.

Ah, nvm I got it. I have an actual TV setting for HDMI, so now I go to HDMI and not AV1 when I select input on my tv.
