Hello, i bought a white SLIM PSP, the model is 2002 i think. I want to install custom firmware on it, i've done a fair bit of research on Google and watched a few Youtube videos so i have a basic understanding of what i need to do, except those tuts are too long, and i get really tired and lost after reading so much. Can someone give me a really really small tut, like something that you can read and understand fully in 1 min? Or provide simple step instructions with the download links i need?

I know the easiest way is to use Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick to downgrade, but first i cbf making my own and even if i were to do that, i'll have to spend money buying extra batter and memory stick, which isn't possible for me atm since i spent all my money and i'm really broke rite now........and that of course means i don't have money to buy the pre-made pandora battery etc, which are cheap btw, but i just don't have the money.

So ya, can someone provide a really easy downgrade method without using Pandora battery, and then tell me how to upgrade to a custom firmware?

Oh and i got a few other questions.

1. What does the Kernel addon 1.5 do?

2. I've heard that custom firmware 3.71 M33-4 (something like that) is the most stable compare to the newest 4.01 M33-2, why is that? Which custom firmware do you guys think is the best? Logically, the newer firmwares offer more features and are more stable (logically), but i don't know about this for the PSP..........what features does the newest custom firmware have compare to the 3.71 M33-4 one? Btw sorry if i get it wrong, some people get really technical on this sort of stuff.

3. Can someone also provide tuts on how to install PSX and GBA emulators? I've also read a few threads about how some games like Final Fantasy 7 sometimes corrupt your PSP or something, or you can't play on certain discs, and you have to install something or use a certain custom firmware to play it more stable.........i think using PopStation or something? Can someone plz elaborate more on that?

4. Lastly, I forgot whether it's a homebrew app or a PC application for the PSP, i think it's called PSP ultimate toolbox or something, i don't know what it does, sorry about the vague information, i only came across it at a PSP site which i didn't bookmark and couldn't find it anymore, i want to know what it does because the screenshot looks interesting. The only keywords i remember is ultimate and i think maybe "toolbox" as well.......i think it's a theme changer or something? Coz the screenshot showed this really flashy theme with heaps of tools in it or something.............and no it's not Ir shell, i only remember seeing the "ultimate" word in it very clearly........i'm pretty sure it's not a downgrader too.

Edit:
sry for the huge amount of questions, but for the Pandora battery, i know you can switch it back to normal battery after you pandora'd it, but the method i saw was to open the battery but cutting along the cover lines and then do something to the circuits inside or w/e to restore it.........which i don't wanna do, i don't wanna risk doing that, plus i don't wanna have to to this sort of "hard-modding" type of work..........is there a way to make the battery both usable and also switch it to Pandora at the same time??? Like, a setting you save in the battery so that when you combine certain combo keys on your PSP, it'll activate the pandora feature?

impossible. pandora battery is REQUIRED. if you don't have the money then borrow someone elses pandora battery. or have a friend make the pandora battery for you. if you don't have a friend to make it for you then you're outta luck... wait till you get some money

1. ignore 1.5 its not for slim

2. go with 4.01 M33-2

3. get CFW working before worrying about that malarchy

4. See 3

To save time and effort, why not look into purchasing a premade pandora battery and a magic stick, much easier than doing the hard mod yourself, especially if it's a first for you.

umm okay but could you provide simple instructions tuts on how i downgrade and upgrade to custom firmware?

Alliana, if you read properly, you'll learn that i've already stated the reason why i'm not purchasing a pandora battery.

and can someone care to explain why the 3.71 m33-4 firmware is the most stable and whether the newest 4.01 m33-2 firmware is better and what extra features etc does it have compare to the 3.71 m33-4 firmware?

and about question 4, i think it was something like "ultimate" aio pack or something?

and about my last question on the pandora battery, isn't there any way you can make it have a dual option so that you can use it normally and then use it as pandora when needed?

right you need pandoras to downgrade a slim no other option.

now you have 1 option which will allow you to mod you psp without the need to buy a new battery but its risky and reqires soldering skills

to do it for free you need to hard mod your battrey

guide

then to normalize it just re solder the pin and the bit you had to cut and fingers crossed it should work

then just make the mms (needs to be 256mb to 2gb pref 4gb and 128 may work) with DDCv7 or psp grader or any program that makes mms

2nd option which will cost is to buy a datel tool battery you can get them for around £10 maybe a bit less([link]).

then just make the mms and you have it set to install cfw

3rd option buy the full thing ready made its about £30 can be cheaper ([link])

hope that helps ya out a bit but there is no way of doing it without pandoras battery

just wait till a bit of money comes in

ok thanks and last question, can someone recommend any must have accessories for PSP? E.g. i saw this MICROSD TO MEMORY STICK PRO DUO adapter for only $20 which is really cheap, and since M2 memory cards are so much cheaper, i wanna try it out but not sure if it's safe to do this. I'm worried if the speed will be the same as using an actual memory stick pro duo, since i'll be installing custom firmware and loading/saving games on it, the speed and performance will matter.....but ya, can someone confirm if this is a good idea to do this? And ya plz recommend other stuff i should buy as well.
