Hello, I'm new to building computers, but I put this together. I'd like something on the cheaper side for my first build, but I'd also like it to be able to do everything my current computer can, and better. I picked out everything (I think) except the power supply, which I'd like some advice on (how many watts do I really need etc., and how many if I'll be trying to OC).
These are my current PC specs, and while they're pretty low by today's standards, I'm quite happy with it.
-Dell Dimension 4600i
-2.8 GHz Single Core CPU (P4P (Prescott) Pentium 4E 90nm 2.8-3.8Ghz
1.25-1.4V) L2 on board cache 1mb
-2.79 GHz, 512 MB Ram (2 256 DDR Samsung)
-On Board Video (Intel 865-G PCI Accelerated SVGA)
-On Board Audio (AC'97 Audio Controller)
I believe everything here is compatible, but I'd like some reassurance. What power supply is recommended for this computer? How does this compare to the computer I already have?
Excluding power supply the total is $323. If this build goes well I'll be wanting to build a much nicer computer next year.
I hope I've provided enough information and thank you for your help.
your cpu does not come with a heatsink and fan. for a budget computer that is an expensive motherboard. a cheaper 780g board would eb better. for a budget system i would get these parts
it will be much faster. the cpu will be around twice as fast and windows will run alot better with more ram. also the on board graphics on the 780g board will be better than what is in your current computer. the graphics will be powerful enough to watch hd videos or to use aero is you use vista.
