I have recently bought an xbox 360 premium and have found out that i have a Lite-On drive. I wanted to know is it possible to flash it using the Benq Iextreme v1.41. Because the noob textbook 2008 gives a tutorial on how to flash a benq/lite-on/philip drive with the benq fw. So is it possible to flash it ?

Its already out the way to hack it,but it isn't easy because you have to use a LVTTL-RS232 converter. The hack lets you read the firmware and then lets you spoof another drive. Its not for novices though and requires some soldering directly to the dvd drive pcb board.

Props to Geremia,C4EVER,TeamModFreakz etc...if I left someone out my bad

Yes, your answer is that Now there is a solution for LiteOn drives, you spoof your LiteOn Key into another drive such as Benq or Samsung. A FW solution to be used in LiteOn drive directly still not ready and without forecast

There won't be a hacked firmware for the Liteon with this technique, only a spoofing method. The reason why is because you can't flash the Liteon drives it has a read only rom on it.So if your replacing with a Benq or Samsung you need to use the hacked firmware for a Benq or Samsung not the Liteon and spoof it as a Liteon.Just my two cents it wouldn't make sense to create a firmware for the Liteon as you can't write back to it.The only thing needed is the dvdkey as mentioned, spoofing string, and the hacked firmware for whatever drive you replace it with.

so if the liteon drives can't be flashed can't we mod a 360 that has a liteon drive with a chip and work?

Here is the link to the instructions plus diagrams and information for buying or making an LVTTL-RS232 converter http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?topic=10204.200 if you look through the whole thread it will give you more information homesick. That is a really good question that I honestly can't answer at the moment vladser. The problem is the Lite-On is different compared to all the other drives referring to the drive controller interface.Since the Lite-On drives use a read only rom chip I believe a modchip could be used to store the firmware. The problem is writing a hacked firmware for it,and doing all the necessary stuff just to get it to work.It would be too complex for most users making it cost more to keep the Lite-On instead of buying a different drive and just spoofing it.The procedure would be writing a hacked Lite-On firmware to the modchip, and they both don't exist yet.I did read somewhere that Firmware ToolBox will be updated to support Lite-On drives in the future though, but that will be a very long time from now.It will have to be reprogrammed to support these type of drives, and they really are a nuisance.

DVDKey32 Lite-On Key Retriever>> >>A Software/Hardware combination method has been discovered on how to extract your drivekey for a lite-on drive...
This exe is a win32 app that extracts the drive key from the Lite-On 360 drive via Serial.

Be warned: This win32 program does not use the windows API. The exe writes directly to the ATA controller's I/O ports (which requires Geek Hideout's I/O dll, which I have included in the rar). It also requires that you be using an ATA - SATA adapter to connect your 360 drive to your PC, or an SATA controller that has a legacy mode (try the BIOS setup options on your controller).

Geremia - initial concept
C4eva - the CDB's and how to send them
Podger - for the code
Seventhson - for the userspace parallel ATA driver

*Please note that this is NOT a firmware hack for a lite-on drive. It is just a way to retrieve the key from the drive for use with another drive (samsung, hitachi, benq) that is capable of being modified.

This release is a revision of the original DVDKey released by Geremia for use within a windows operating system. You can find the original DOS based version by Geremia here

DeViLs360 has written a thorough tutorial using the DOS based version of DVDKey here, and should be updating shortly to include DVDKey32. The tutorial includes the creation of the RS232 Serial cable to connect to the drive, getting the key from the lite-on and spoofing it to work with another drive.

I'm pretty sure it can be done, but it would take a long time to get anywhere. Its not really building the design for the modchip, but programming the chip depending on what type of chip you use.The majority of modchips for consoles use Actel programmable chips and something like Libero IDE.I think so far from what I've seen for Xbox 360 modchips they have been using an addition drive controller chip to store the firmware. It can't be done by someone just learning if you plan on making it from scratch, because you need some knowledge in the field to understand what you are doing. What is wrong with just getting another drive and spoofing/injecting the Lite-On dvdkey and dvdstrings into it.You can still use hacked firmware from my understanding with the method they found so far not necessarily the Lite-On,but with the drive you replace it with.

you are correct i would much rather do something the easy way rather than the hard way if i could. i dont know why anyone would do something the hard way if they didnt have to. makes no sense to me.

I'm glad that's out in the open.

I'm also glad that not everybody thinks like you do.

Again...I've said enough.

I don't think there will be an easy way for this drive for a long time.Take a second and look at the Hitachi 79 drive solution that was discovered recently. It took almost a year for the hackers to figure out the drive.I'm not saying the Lite-On drives can't be kept, but at the moment I don't see it happening anytime soon.If your patient enough to wait that long that is cool, but to get anywhere with the Lite-On drives at the moment it won't be an easy task from my understanding.

In fact, we are facing here the internet speed, info that seems impossible one day should be possible in the other day.... The fact is that many people are working very hard to make things easier for everybody in this moment; so if anybody wanna an easy way; should wait a little bit more due to currently the "things are on the way, moving very fast"!

By the way, my knowledge also makes me in a "wait stage".....

And many thanks for the people who are able to make things happens...!
