Hi, Right now I'm sharing my laptops wireless signal with the Xbox 360 so I can connect to Xbox Live and stream music/video. Well like most people I hate vista and set my computer up to dual boot both vista and ubuntu, problem is ubuntu cannot use my wireless card (not even with ndiswrapper) and without internet its next to useless. I am planning on buying a wireless adaptor for my xbox any ways because I hate needing to set everything up on my laptop every single time i try to connect (stupid vista turns off all network sharing everytime i plug it in) besides the adaptor will work much better than this cheap built in card. I have alot more things I want to purchase first but am willing to buy the adaptor first if I can do this... Is it possible to wirelessly connect with the 360 adaptor and then connect the computer up like usually but instead the xbox give wireless capability instead of vice versa and if so will that work with ubuntu because the computer is connected by a wire?

i do not think you can piggy back off of the 360's connection

Maybe you should try a wireless bridge. Check out the ones by netgear--they are quite snazzy.

Thanks to both of you, I looked at wireless bridges for a minute but am kinda reluctant to buy one in case I missed something and it doesn't really work cuz thats alot of money. I don't need one from the same company as my router right? Will It pretty much work no matter what (besides needing to be the same GHz) or are there some random other facts that need to be the same? With that I will be able to just connect both my Laptop and 360 wired up to it and let it handle all wireless right? So Linux will work.
Oh, and how does it hook up? Does It just plug into wall or do I need to plug it up to my laptop and leave it on? And one last question, after reading a little about it, I think I understand this: The two modes are; one just for wired connections; and two, one that doesnt allow wired connects but instead helps increase signal strength by extending the wireless range by becoming an access point? Is this correct or did I somehow not understand it? Because having both at the same time would really help out.

It works, as I use wireless-n bridge from netgear that came in a 2-pack (one for two items in a different room and then one to bridge from the g-router). If you have a G router already (and don't want N), you just need the bridge for the xbox. You plug it in and it should work. If your wireless is secured, you have to do a bit more to get it working, but it's not too hard.

I chose the N because I stream HD movies to a popcorn hour, but if it's just for gaming, you don't need to get that much. A G bridge should do just fine. A lot of companies market them as "wireless gaming bridge", so search for that on your favorite online retailer and you'll find all they have to offer.

Alright thanks alot I'll try to buy one soon as possible (a car just came up and now I'm spending all my money in that :( ... I think I'll go with the N cuz I already have N router and never know when I'll need the extra power. Thanks again for all the help.
