Hey everyone. I've been searching for an hour or more, and I haven't found quite what I'm looking for - hope.
I tried flashing a Hitachi 79 drive out of an Xbox Elite using the Xecuter connectivity kit. I had some problems right off the bat, and decided to give up on it, but I wanted to give it one last shot. All the sudden, I power on the computer, and the kit goes up in smoke. Since then, the drive will not spin up, on the computer or in the Xbox.
I'm assuming this thing is bricked. I never got the drive key off of it, and never got to even attempt to flash it. Is it possible that this thing is not dead-to-the-world bricked? Could there be a hardware or a software fix that wouldn't require the drive key?
If not, I have seen some posts that talked about pulling the chip off of the drive, sticking it in a programer, and pulling the drive key off that way. What would be the process? I personally don't have the equipment or the brains to do so, so who or what profession should I look for?
Finally, if I'm just SOL, where would I get a cheap 360, even a refurbished one. Doesn't need to be an Elite - the death of HD DVDs make them overpriced obsolescence.
You pretty much gave yourself the answer but yeah desolder the TSOP32 chip off the dvd drive pcb mobo and plug it into a willem programmer or something similar to read the firmware off the chip.After you extract the firmware plug into Firmware Toolbox and it will give you the dvdkey so you can flash a new drive for it.Its pretty complicated if you don't have the right equipment and I'm not sure who to recommend to you without knowing your location.
