When capturing NTSC audio/video for DVD, the option is given for either LPCM or Level 2 audio, the later of which considerably reduces file size. In reading many posts, it is routinely mentioned that Level 2 will not play in some DVD players. However, no one seems to clarify the extent of the problem. For example, is it mostly older DVD players that have a problem ? Or, a specific brand ? I would hate to put all my videos on DVD's using level 2 only to find out that I would be severly limited in platback. Anyone have any guidance/comments ? Thanks.

Most DVD players shouldn't have any problem playing mpeg layer-2(mp2) audio. I have yet to see one that doesn't. What's important though is that you use a sampling frequency of 48000hz. You should only run into problems if you use 44100hz. By the way, a good mp2 bitrate is 224kpbs. Unless you have a high end audio system you could probably tolerate 128kpbs.
