First of all, replace the power supply, it's awful. That will cause you problems later on. I'd recommend going with a Corsair HX 520W unit - don't be fooled by the fewer watts, it's a very powerful unit, far moreso than the Xion.

Is this a problem that's just started occurring, or a new build?

its a new build. but could the power supply be the problem now? or is there an underlying problem?

Have you connected the 4-pin ATX CPU power connector securely?
The PSU is unlikely to be the cause of this but it's very likely to cause you issues later on.

if that is the connector you are referring to then no because my psu doesn't even have that pin. could the psu be why my dvd drive isn't responding also?

You've pasted a tiny thumbnail not the real image, I can't see that. Paste the link at the bottom - yes, the one it tells you not to use... lmao

Indeed, that's an 8-pin, but it fulfills the same function. If you have an 8-pin you can plug in only 4 pins of it.
You either need this:

or this:

on your PSU, which proper units DO have.

I've not heard of multiple 4-pin connectors, only an 8-pin that is split, and if it is it won't split very far. Are you sure you're not thinking of 6-pin PCI express connectors?
However if your PSU has these, it will certainly have a 4-pin. Remember, this 4-pin is required for most PCs to boot these days, certainly for Athlon X2s.

Yeah, 6-pins are for graphics cards. If you have a 4-pin one, that's what you need, plug it into one side of that connector, it will only fit in the correct way due to the latch on the connector.

Even if the system is hanging you should be able to eject the DVD drive. Try unplugging the drive both from the power and from the motherboard.

That's what I'd like to find out. I'd suggest getting the better Power supply next, before you do any more tests.

Short of a new motherboard (which will be far more time consuming and complex to change), and in any case, I'm not happy with that PSU in your system anyway, it will need changing even if it isn't causing the problem, and it could be.

Afraid not, I'm english.
However, before you send back the board, TRY A DIFFERENT POWER SUPPLY.
