When i play most games i get a black bar above and below the game. It seems to only happen if I'm in 480p mode for its not there in 480i. One games that i have that doesn't have this is ssbb but others like fire emblem and Mario super sluggers has them. What could be wrong. This is also present on the wii menu but the bars are about only 3 pixels high.My tv is a 16:9 wide screen tv and the wii is also set to widescreen. Its not that big of a deal it's just annoying. I would also like to know why its happening

it sounds as if you have the Wii configured correctly, perhaps it is the T.V.'s settings. You do have the component cables I'm assuming and have those plugged into a COMPONENT (Y, Pb, Pr) input on the set and not into the RCA input. Most widescreen sets have modes where you can change the display settings, to stretch the picture to fit the screen or 1:1 pixel throughput, for example. These usually are called something like "wide, full, etc". Have you tried to change the settings on the set?

My tv is using compent cables in the appropriate slot. Also my tv has few options , it only has full and 4:3. It does have some advanced options but most don't make sense to me and the only noticeable difference is with the video

Hmmm...Does this happen with other 480p material like a cable box set to output sll material at 480p? I don't think it's the Wii unless you have a bad set of component cables, but that would be unusual. It may be the set is underscanning the image or when it converts the signal to its native resolution it misses a few pixels. What type of set is it, LCD/Plasma/DLP, and what is the native resolution? I would try to set my cable box to output all signals to 480p, if possible to double check the set, you could also try a different component input if there is one or a component passthrough like in/out from a surround sound reciever. If you're already using a receiver plug directly to the set. ---Chikn

When my cable box is set to 480p there is no problem same with my DVD player. My TV is an akai 42 inch plasma TV and i think the native resolution is 852 x 480 but in not sure. I have also tried a different input with the same results and i don't have a receiver. Also I'm not sure this is important but my wii has a wiikey version 1.9x or whatever and this also happens when i set my wii to 4:3. Thanks.

I have read that some games are coded at less than 480 pixels high, like 470, 448. I can't vouch for these numbers as I read them in another forum. supposedly Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid 3 are two of those games. Either way it shouldn't really matter because your set should upscale the image to the full 480 pixels unless it is just a 1:1 passthrough. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. ---Chikn
