Alright then! After 2 days of research, i've come to realize that no matter what you see, no matter what you hear, if you have ofw 4.05 for PSP, it is IMPOSSIBLE to downgrade using a pandora's battery or whatever. NOW! I will explain why!
In order for the battery to be booted as a service mode trigger, it must be properly hacked, and get this, THERE MUST BE CFW INSTALLED ON THE PSP! And in order for there to BE cfw on the PSP, you have to have an ofw version that has cfw actually written for it.
So basically, If you have ONE PSP with ONE memory stick, you CANNOT downgrade, period.

the "service mode trigger" as you call it has nothing to do with having CFW already installed on the PSP. in fact it has everything to do with having a TA-088 v2 (or below) motherboard inside the PSP. they will be able to boot service mode fine regardless of OFW revision.
the only reason you hear so much talk of the 4.05 OFW having trouble is because a PSP that comes with 4.05 OFW most likely is a TA-088 v3 motherboard inside the PSP and therefore it cannot (at present) be hacked.
if you are having trouble CFW'ing your PSP you most likely have a TA-088 v3 ... that would be the root of your problems, not OFW 4.05 or whatnot.
Please forgive how rude my response in the other thread was, I'm just incredibly frustrated after wasting a battery and having to buy another one for FOURTY DOLLARS.....
So you can at least sympathize a bit, considering all I did was follow the millions of guides online.
Did the Red PSP that came with God Of War have that motherboard? If you're not sure, how can I find out?
ya after reading his other thread where he speaks of his hard-mod on the battery i'm convinced he screwed it up.
let this be another lesson for anyone considering attempting it... there are so many non-risky solutions available...
don't be cheap and try to save $20 by not buying a datel service tool... look what it costs you in the end paying $40+ for another battery and still having no pandora ! ! !
