I have an older Xbox 360(the one with out the HDMI cable) when i hook up the Xbox 360 to play it changes the resolution from 720 to 480. Has anyone ever came accross this before?

Also is the HDMI out put better that the HDTV plug that I am currently using?

I have to go into the console settings and manually change it to 1080i on mine. I think 480 is the default.

I don't have a hdmi 360 but I do on my ps3 and I can see a difference and think hdmi is much better.

I had looked it up at Gamestop and saw it for $60 also someone on craigslist is selling the cable for $19. Do you know or anyone know if you can tell the differance between the HD cable and the HDMI?

My friend has an Elite, and I have an older version of the Premium without HDMI.

When my 360 broke, we hooked his up to my (bigger) TV for multiplayer, and I have to say, I did notice a difference. The picture was much sharper.

However, and I'm no expert, but I don't think getting a component to HDMI converter will increase your video quality. Just something to look into before spending your money...

Yea I got a plasma w/the HDMI connection I got the cable box from Time Warner Cable w/the HDMI cable. Hooked it up and I can see the differance w/the chanels. Maybe I will buy it to test it out then return it after I get board w/it. As long as I keep the receipt WALMART will take it back.

LOL they will take anything back.

HDMI is the best Audio/Video Connection Available for HDTV's and the only way to get 1080p.

if your xbox does not have HDMI then getting a component to HDMI converter will do nothing just use component and set your settings on your 360 to 720p.

Oh so the adapter/converter will only up the resolution from a 480 to 720p. If thats so I wont pay $60 for that. I have HD/AV cables already. I can always buy it try it and then return it if you cant tell the differance.

Someone please confirm this.

I'm not a big time a/v person but I know my tv says it's capable of 1080i so using my stock 360 component cables I went into the settings and set it to 1080i without any problems. For grins I tried 1080p and got a gray screen with black lines.

So I'm assuming that I am at 1080i with my 360 or am I totally wrong about this?

Also I have a dvi port so I got a dvi to hdmi adapter for the ps3 so that should be 1080i but using that setup instead of a component cable.
