Hi, i have just got the rrod and done the penny trick, i only used 2penny deep and it seemed to work, or so i thought. It only works for about 1min and then crashes. Should i try using 3 penny deep. Also i have installed some blue vent lights and a blue rf board, could these have something to do with why i have all of a sudden got rrod. Any help appreciated?

Have you already done the x-clamp replacement?

With RROD's I deal with I do that and the penny trick.

I also only go 2 pennies deep but I think there are tuts that say you can also use 3 if you want.

No have not done the x clamp fix yet, like i said i did the penny trick but still gets rrod after about a minute. One thing i did do though, when i was overheating i had my fans plugged in so maybe didnt get hot enough. Do you think having extra led's could make it overheat more?

When you do the x-clamp fix you are supposed to have your fan plugged in and sitting over top of the larger cpu heatsink. If you had the fan still in it's original position in the back with the shroud on then there might be a chance that it was not getting a chance to get hot enough.

One of the things "I've" experienced with rrod's is that if someone brings one that they tried to fix and got it working for awhile but then it went back to the rrod that it's nearly impossible, "for me" to get it back to life. I've had 3 like this out of the 20 I've fixed. If it's a rrod that hasn't been opened and I do the x-clamp replacement and the penny trick then it works and I never see them again.

Someone else on here might have a more expiereince cracking the tough nut rrod's and can give some more help but I would def. do the x-clamp fix.

Good luck.
