HI,

i new with wii, seeking enlightment. i got it as a present, so i'm not sure with the system specification.

these are what i know,
1) wii version: 3.2u
2) but, it's a japan set, as it comes in the japan box
3) i was told not to update my system, as it will cause my wii not to play any games.
4) i'm able to play SSBB, mario kart, S&M @ olympic games, cooking mama, RE4, raving rabbit 1 & 2.

but,
5) Boom blox - requires system update
6) SMG - requires system update

i'm afraid to do a system update, as i'm afraid it might crash my wii.
any solution? or any ways i could do the system update safely.

thx,
ray

As long as it a game from your region, it is 100% safe to update.

If not try use wii brickblocker to patch the update.

Jap system + jap game = Ok No Brick!

Us system + Us game = Ok No Brick!

Jap System + Us Game = possible Brick, Do not do!

I also have a same problem like you, Mine are Japan set but fully changed into US set and now running 3.3U, previously was 3.1U. I did update the firmware directly from Settings not using disc games.

After the firmware is updated, I can't play most of my backup games, and I found the solution is to install homewbrew channel and run the backup games using geckoOS.

So, if you still want to update the firmware, make sure u install homebrew channel first.

Hope it helps...

Your firmware is USA since it has 3.3U (U=USA region).

If you have any PAL or Jap games then use Wii Brick Blocker on the ISO to disable the update before burning. If these are originals then you are taking a chance of semi-bricking/bricking your Wii. In most cases you will be safe since you have updated to the latest 3.3U firmware. But there is still a possibility of a semi-brick/brick plus you will get duplicated news and weather channels.

Any USA region game disc is safe to update with.
