Google has led me here and I hope you guys can help me out. I was following an earlier thread, and converted my .avi files to .vob files with VSO's Divx to DVD. I then attempted to create a disc with TMPGenc DVD Author, however it doesnt seem to support .vob files, only mpgs/avis etc etc. I tried to load the original .avi files, but I fear for some freakish reason theyve become corrupted as TMPGEnc could only load the audio from the first one.
Is there anyway for me to create a dvd disc complete with menus from these .vob files? They appear to be in a ready-made DVD format, as they're in a video_ts folder. Is it just as simple as burning the files directly to dvd? I havent risked it yet as I dont want any more coasters!
If the files on the VIDEO_TS folder are the standard files (.VOB .IFO .BUP), then they can be burned to DVD disk using ImgBurn - simply elect to burn the folder.
The link for the program lists a guide on how to burn a DVD folder.
If you want a menu included in the final DVD - and you still have your AVI files, use DVD Flick to convert them to DVD and optionally burn the disk.
If you use this program, remember to select an NTSC or PAL disk in the program settings
vso convertxtodvd produces dvd compliant files, including the menus etc, it'll even burn them for you.
If you are ever unsure if your video_ts folder is dvd compliant, use the free dvdshrink to open up those files, if they open up fine in dvdshrink, then they will be playable when you record them.
If you have nero, use the dvd video setting to burn them, nero will make sure they are in the proper format.
Finally if you are new to burning dvd's, the only reliable dvd media is verbatim and sony. I learn the hard way how important dvd media is. If your burned dvd freezes or skips near the end of the movie, you got bad dvd media.
TMPGencDVD Author will allow you to combine multiple VOB SETs (A VIDEO_TS folder with *.IFOs, *.BUPs and *.VOBs in it) onto a single DVD.
When on the "Source" page, instead of clicking "Add Files", click "Source Wizard". Here, you will be able to navigate to the folder containing your DVD image files and load them in. You can combine several video clips into one Title, with each one being it's own Chapter, or put each clip in as it's own Title.
Finally, if you don't want TMPGenc to re-encode the files, since you've already gone to the trouble of doing that with another program, choose "None" as the output size.
Now, if all you have is the *.VOBs, you can use IFOedit to create the *.IFOs and *.BUPs you need. Place the *.VOBs inside of a folder named VIDEO_TS and run IFOedit. At the bottom, click the "Create IFO" button. After a few minutes, you should have a proper VOB SET to work with.
