Copying Games To Hard Drive Not Worth It Now?

well apparantly we have all been screwed by M$ again. the one thing most of us were waiting for and its not even worth it. apparantly copying the game to the drive on the new dash update does speed up the load times but it is mainly for older games when they still hadn't figured out how to compress everything just perfect for sommoth gameplay and load times. now they are saying they have fixed that problem when the game is released so if you are copying a new game to the hard drive the load time difference will be almost "unoticeable" now i am pissed. however i had a feeling it wsasnt going to be much almost unoticable is ridiclous. do they really thing we are going to copy a game that takes 7 minutes to do, and waste almost 10gig of our hard drive space to see something that we might not even notice a difference? give me a break M$! you have let me down once again.........

People on this site might think its cool to save on teh hard drive, but why do it, sure you can Frisbee your coaster and save dvd pocket space, but excuse my noobology, isnt writting a disc to the hard drive exposing the file?

Yeah I kind of figured it would be like that homesick.The thing that bothers me though is even if you do install a game on your harddrive you still need the game disc inserted to play the game? It makes no sense to me,but if you already have the disc inserted wouldn't it save you time playing off the dvd drive instead of installing it on the harddrive.It sounds like M$ is trying to fix another screwup from what I gathered.They pushed out a bunch of games that are running buggy as hell and this is a fix for them I guess.The thing that bothers me though is I can play PS3 games off my PS3 harddrive without a disc,so what is stopping M$ from using a similar technique.I don't know it sounds like M$ has multiple brain farts as they just screwed up probably the best feature they could have introduced.

i bet it's to "reduce" disc scratches of the games, and try to keep up with the ps3 features. they're probably thinking, "since the ps3 has it, we can do it too."
because most people have the 20gig hdd, those who are not informed will fork over the money to get the 120gig, only to be disappointed. for a cheaper price, you can get a 250gig, 7200rpm western digital scorpio black, and swap it in the ps3, be completely legal, and have all the games run faster.
microsoft has to really think about the hard drive feature before releasing the new dashboard.

I am still happy with the update,Now I won't have to hear the darn dvd drive,and It will save some of your laser life.Also will be nice for the people that are running there drives at 8x speed or lower.They should notice faster times.

The dvd drive will still be used to authentic the game disc when being played,so in theory you will be using both the dvd drive and the harddrive.I think homesick told us already there is no real improvement for faster load times.It may be quicker,but not by much from the statement he made.I trust his judgement and the fact that you have to use both the dvd drive and the harddrive will make the system work harder which is not good from my understanding.If they are going to introduce the harddrive feature they need the harddrive to be able to run games off of it without the discs or its not going to work out.Its fairly simple all they have to do is make a compression encryption for the games that install otherwise its pointless to even bring it out the way they are trying to.I believe it will be the same speed as its using the dvd drive as the game disc has to be read while the system reads the harddrive as well.If the dvd drive is took out you could see real improvements,because the harddrive can clearly read quicker than a dvd drive not to mention transfer large amounts of data as well.

I was under the impression that the Disk it just checked at bootup so it is confirmed that it is owned.And what I meant it being faster is, The normal disk reading speed is 12x right?And they are running at 8x ,4x of course installing it on the hard drive would be quicker during Game play loads.

Yeah, you could definitely say that Microsoft got this idea from the PS3, but not every PS3 game has the ability to be copied to the hard drive. Some do, but not all.
In the end, I don't see what the big deal is about it. I mean, it will load the game a LITTLE faster, but not that much. I guess MS just wanted to give us the option of how we load our games. It kind of sucks that it won't be this huge reduction of load times, but I'm not pissed about it. Look at some PS3 game load times. Even after the game has been installed, there are some games where it will only shave off a few second for each load time, nothing significant from like a minute to 5 seconds.

You are right it is most likely going to help those that set their read speed to 8x because it is obviously only loading at 8x. As far at the disc check i guess no one really knows right now except a select few. it might only spin it up briefly at the begining and be done with it, or it might spin up randomlly throughout the game to keep a check up on it. either way those are some valid points. I guess i am just mostly dissapointed because not only this is happening but what cee43ja1 said in his post too. I mean seriously guys its 20$ for a 20 gig HD!! thats insane! Imagine if you were the average buyer and knew nothing about putting an aftermarket HD in. would you really shell out almost 200$ for a 120 gig HD? because that obviously the only one we will be able to use that isnt going to fill up in a heart beat. They need new CHEAPER Hard Drives out like yesterday! I just cant believe they are being so dumb about it. isnt someone in the office saying, uhhhh dont we sell 600gig drives for that price? wow thats stupid.

Homesick, don't you have something else to think about (such as having a life) to worry about something so trivial as this? You might want to go outside and make friends or maybe even get a job instead of living to post on here.
