Surely there's some way to find out other than playing a burned game. I want to make sure what my problems are, currently getting an unable to read disc error, I used some cheap Memorex DVD+R, so I might need something better, and I haven't formatted my wii's memory yet, don't know if that'll help. Worst case scenario I have to go through the process of opening it up again and reattaching the wiiclip.

I have some Verbatim's on hand, seems they're the best, but the problem is they are dual layered, I don't want to waste a disc so I was wondering if it was possible to burn more than one game on one disc? I got the brawl update so I'm assuming my wii can read double layered dvd's.

I was using the Sony DVD+R's and got disk read errors on all but one of my backups. I've ordered Verbatim DVD-R's and we'll see how that works

Eh, I guess I'll try the Verbatim's, but before I do I need to know if 2 games on one disc will work.

Hopefully they do.

Well I tried one of my verbatim dual layered discs, just put mario kart on there. It didn't work.

It could be the file, or even the disc, but I need to make sure it's not the damn chip, there has to be a way to test it.

Two wii games on one DL disk won't work. One single layered game on a DL disk will not work either. And formatting the wii system memory wont do anything.

Get some single layer verbatums and, if possible, try burning the disk with a different computer. When my old DVD burner was wearing out the first sign was that wii games I burned on it did not work, even though all normal disks burned with it seemed fine.

Thanks for the hope. I'll grab some verbatim one layered discs tomorrow. My drive is pretty new though, so I doubt that's the problem.

Well I grabbed a 50 pack of Verbatim DVD+R's.

I burned a PAL Twilight Princess, and a PAL Mario Kart, but neither worked, still got the "unable to read disc" error.

There's really no way to check if the chip is working or is it's something else?

I mean, people said the Twilight download worked for them, but maybe it doesn't, so that could be the problem.

Or maybe it's the way I'm burning, I did a 1x for TP, and a 4x for Kart.

By the way, my chip is a D2Pro9 for my GC2-D2C, and I got a D2Pro9 chip with a wii-clip, I pushed it down for like a minute, not too hard as to destroy the motherboard of the wii, but it was pretty secure in there, you figure it might've gotten lose somehow?

There could be a few things happing here.

What version of D2Pro9 do you have?

If you have a version 3 (D2E compatible) then it is possibly the Modchip. Some users have had issues with D2Pro9 version 3 Modchips working on their D2C/D2C2 drives.

If you have an original D2Pro9 and you happen to have a D2C2 drive then this could be the issue as well. You will need a D2Pro9 version 2.

To verify weather you have a normal D2C drive or D2C2 drive follow the images below...

The first 2 images are 2 cases of D2C2 drives. If the board ID# has AMX in it or it has 2 letters under the board ID# then you have a D2C2 drive.

There is an extra piece of metal on the drive spindle for D2C2 drives.

As for burning you should use ImgBurn at 4X speed and booktype the DVD+R media to DVD-ROM in ImgBurn if your burner supports booktyping.

I have this chip, so I guess version 3.

I'll check in a bit about the other stuff.

Well I checked and I definitely have the old D2C, I have that metal thing on the drive and there is no AMX, it's AMW, nor does it have 2 letters under it.

I checked my chip, and on the back it says d2e certified. I ordered one for D2C/D2C2, not D2E, is it supposed to say that or did they send me the wrong chip?

Oh and here, got some pics.

Both sides of the chip+wii clip.

A closer look at the front of the chip.

The wii's board.

Did you choose D2C in the drop down menu or D2E when ordering from modchipcentreal? If you selected D2C then they should have sent you a version 2 and since it is D2E compliant it is a version 3.

You might want to contact them and say they sent you the wrong version d2Pro9 and ask if you can exchange it for a version 2.

As I said before there are some that have had issues with version 3 on D2C and D2C2 drives. There is even a disclaimer on the page you ordered it from...

Quote:
If you choose the D2C / D2C2 option, you will receive it with the 2.3 firmware which is the D2Pro9 V2 since there is a firmware bug with the V3.

Yeah, chose that option just like you told me in my other thread, hell, it even says so on my order page on their site.

So now I'll have to email them and ask for an exchange, sigh.

Not to hijack this thread, but I think I'm in the same boat. I'm getting the unable to read disk error also. One game works, one game work once, and one game didn't work..

I ordered one and the description is:
D2Pro9 V2 / V3 Bundle (D2Pro9 V3 + V4C WiiClip + Triwing Screwdriver) Options: Soldered Together: Yes
Wii Chipset: DMS / D2A / D2B

So does that mean I got a V2 or V3?

How do I know what bersion the chip is?

If its D2E cert its version 3?

If you have a DMS/D2A/D2B then you shouldn't be effected. What chipset does your Wii drive have?

They said they programmed their chips with 2.3 firmware when you order D2C, so what am I supposed to say now, that it's a broken chip?

ArkadiyG:

Ok if you have the wii opened up, have a look at the LEDS on the chip this can give you an indication if the chip is functiong properly, if the chip has a constant red light on there is a problem!! it should flash red and blue upon start up then no lights, when you start the game again it should flash red and blue,

red and blue flash = good
red staying on = bad
no led's = very bad

the problem with the D2E firmare working with the D2C/D2C2 is seemingly D2PRO9 developers crammed too much data on the chip now and corrupted some of the data which allows you to use on D2C/D2C2 drives, im not sure if the firmware is broken on some of them or only some wii's have issues with it?

Anyway take of the wii-clip and clip it down again, make sure it's on properly!! must emphisise this again and again.

You can downgrade the D2PRO9's firmware with the programmer, if you PM me i can downgrade it for you for free if you're not sending it back and live close.

Hope this helps.
Sean.

How can you tell if the drive is d2e? Can you only downgrade firmware with the programmer and not via dvd?
