I have purchased a couple of months ago and am wondering how I can tell if it is either a PAL / NTSC unit. I Have bought it from EB Games in Australia so my assumption is that it will be a PAL unit to be compatibility with local games.

The reason I ask is because I have only recent purchased a DC2key to mod it which I now have working with legit games though I did have to run the update off Mario Cart to get the DVD drive reading games.

I would like to know if having the NTSC - USA version of this chip would effect my Wii as well it's ability to different games from either regions?
I have heard that their are patches for converting games from PAL to NTSC and visa-versa but would they make any difference if I have overlooked the region when ordering the DC2key?

Any info you have would be appreciated, as i would like to either narrow this down as my problem before i go spending more money trying different types of DVD's that may or may not work, thank you.

Well, Modchips are region independent. The same chip can work in a pal then u take it out and install it on an NTSC, and it would still work.
Region overriding is a option that you can use from the chip, or in case you dont, you can do it through patching games using RegionFrii or using the freeloader disk (only on pal WIIs as far as I know).
How to know which Region you have. That's a tricky question, cause if you bought it from Australia then it's probably a PAL (provided you bought it from retail). in this case you can just go to the settings menu and see on the top right part of the screen, if it's x.xE, it's europe, x.xU it's USA and x.xJ it's a Japanese one.
However, if you bought it second hand or from somewhere other than established shops, it can be everything and the setting menu version wont have any value as with the wonderful tools made by WANINKOKO, Any WII from any region(except Korean) can be changed into any region (except Korean).
I guess that answers your questions.

Yeah was from a register dealer so that means it would be a PAL.

Because the few games i have burnt haven't worked, the Wii just says that it can't read the disk, so i may need to try some different media which has be suggest in the forums.

I do have both PAL and USA images i can try, so should i be converting them to burn as a PAL first?

yes that would be a good option, or in order not to waste media, try first to boot them using Gecko OS or Gecko Region Free from the Homebrew Channel (if you dont know what that is, search for it on this forum, as I noticed you do read before posting) :)

I think the easiest way to tell is if you still have the orinal box your Wii came in, Mine says AUS on the Top and PAL on the bottom, so i'd assume that a NTSC model would have similar markings.

further to my original problem, I've talked to the manufacture and they say that the NTSC chips will not work with Pal wii, so i have sent it back to then and they'll replace it with a PAL version.

I've tried using regionfrii to change a PAL iso to an NTSC iso and I'm still getting a black screen, any ideas?

I am a noob, I know, we all were once...

Where are you buying this from? All D2CKey modchips are the same for all regions. You select what region to use by using jumper settings on the Modchip.

So whoever told you that there are different D2CKey Modchips for different regions is wrong.

Are you sure you do not have a D2C2? If so the D2CKey will not be compatible. To Identify whether you have a D2C or D2C2 drive go HERE and read the second post of the thread.

As for what region you have you can figure this out by looking at the serial#.

Europe (PAL) = LEH
Australia (PAL) = LAH
North America (NTSC(U) = LU
Japan (NTSC(J) = LJH
