I bought a 360 about a year and a half ago and was going to mod it. I did open the 360 and connected it to the sata card I bought for my PC. But I could not get my PC to work with the sata card.

So I just bought a pre modded system and decided to sell the other one. I finally sold it to a guy at work for 150.

Two hours later he calls me and claims he is getting the open tray error! This system is brand new. I never used the console
other than to make sure it powered on after putting it back together. However, I don't think I ever played a game with it either

Plus, he knew I had already opened the case. So it would be the perfect opportunity to pull a switcheroo.

I find it a little hard to believe that a brand new system has a dead DVD drive. I think he probably brought it home and switched out a broken drive from another 360.

Is there any way to tell if the drive is the same one that was originally in the case?

Unless I can prove it, I'm going to have to give him his money back. Just because I'm not 100% certain he's lying.

If anybody has any ideas as far as how I can prove or disprove my theory, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

PS Sorry for the double post. I didn't mean to post this in the X Box forum. I couldn't find anyway to delete the original post

if you know the serial number of it, just compare it to the one he claims is messing up. it should be on the back of the case, under the little flap for the usb slots on the front of the console, and also under the metal casing of the 360 once you take off the covers. if you dont know what the SN was, then you might be in trouble. however, he couldnt have simply took out his broken drive, and put it in yours, because your 'good' drive would have to flashed with his 'broken' drives FW to work in his console again.

Thanks for the reply.

He brought it in today and I opened it up. I had forgotten to reconnect the sata cable to the DVD-Rom or it got unplugged somehow when I was reassembling it!

Plugged in the cable, put it back together and everything is fine. Well, besides the fact that I feel like an idiot. But the system works fine
