does this chip allow us to play backup ps2 games on are ps3 or is it still in work and if so where can i buy this

As far as I know its only good for downgrading the firmware, which isn't useful because the ps3 isn't hacked on any of the firmwares atm.

There is a way to play ps2 backups however, look up the "swap switch tutorial" thread in the sticky with all the links in it.
