I tried using the Universal Unbrick Guide foumd here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/63/610313#4264898

I got this far:

From the ADD_ON folder, I copied the PSP (folder) and 1.50PBP into my memory card. Selected yes to all, etc.

I didnt copy the 395.PBP in that same ADD_ON folder, because the guide didn't say to do so.

Now I can't even use the X button. Literally, it doesn't work. I kept pressing it and it just does nothing. And I have to go to the "Game Menu Memory Stick" section of my PSP to continue with the guide, but I can't even use the X Button so I can't! :/

This is how my PSP is now: I can still access the XMB, but I just can't do anything because I have no "X" button. I have to take the battery out to turn it off. When I try to turn it off the normal way, the screen goes blank but the green light stays on. :/

I have ordered a Pandora battery from DealExtreme in hopes of fixing the problem... will it do the trick?

Is my PSP bricked?

so you never installed the custom firmware ?? you just copied the files to the memory stick ??

if so then i wouldn't say your PSP is bricked cause you never did anything to it...

just sounds like you have a broken X button...

I don't know if I installed the custom firmware... and I can't check since my X button doesnt work. (its not broken. after i did the magic memory stick part of the guide it just stopped working, so its not a broken x button)

I just followed that guide up to the point where I needed to put in a Pandora Battery. Apparently, I have to brick it to install a custom firmware, which is what I did.

I ordered a pandora battery from DealExtreme.com and am waiting for it. Hopefully my PSP is bricked...

Okay, I just found a link to fix the semi-brick. But I don't know if I WANT to fix it.. does the Pandora battery mod thingy work only with full brick or can it work with my semi brick as well? (if i am semi bricked)?

you can't install custom firmware WITHOUT a pandora battery so therefore you definitely DID NOT install custom firmware.

all you did was copy files to the memory stick. this has no effect on your PSP.

using a pandora battery the PSP can be put into 'service mode' which allows you to load the custom firmware off the memory stick. without the pandora battery you can copy / delete files all day long from your memory stick IT WON'T DO ANYTHING.

Not sure where you heard 'bricking' your psp was required in order to aswitch to CFW.

That has about as much logic as putting your PSP in the microwave for 10 Mins in order to totally d/g it.

does x work in recovery mode?

if so you may be in luck as you need to switch the x to o and then you can use key cleaner (unless the 0 key is corrupt to)

the buttons are all hex keys save in the flash0 and helps relate what is being pressed allong with other things like the umd drive e.t.c they all have a key.

just using chilly willys key cleaner once you got everything sorted and it should try to fix it

if not then your a bit screwed as you cant use anything that could restore it.

but you could be lucky and find that pandoras does fix it; id suggest using DC v7 as that has some ID storage fixer thing on it so that can help you out
