How to tell what drive i have?

I just bought my xbox 360 last night and was wondering how can i tell what kind of drive it has. if it has a lite on, benQ, samsung etc. is there a sticker or anything i can check?

no need to check. it's lite on. it's currently not moddable yet. okay if u want to do the checking. you have to take yor xbox 360 faceplate off and look at the big hole. use a flashlight and if u see two white wires, that would mean it's liteon. but i am 99% sure it's lite on.

john there are reports of people now getting benq's from store shelves and from the repair center here and there, so i wouldnt say dont check.

just do a google image search for xbox 360 drives. Compare it to the pic. I believe the lite-on's also have the same drive tray as the benqs though. SO if it is the benq, the only way to be sure what it is, would be to open up your 360.

really. it thought MS would stop making the benq drive by now and it will be all lite on.

i did buy it new and the drive does look like a benq. only way to tell now is to open it and flash a light in. Also once i do get it 'modded' can i play games direct off a HDD or do i have to buy a D-L burner and burn my own games?

Is there any way to tell what drive you have by the manufacture date? I got another free 360 yesterday and it was made in april 2006 and it got rrod so i sent it back today to ms to get repaired. What drive would you guess I have?

Heres a picture to show you what dvd drive you could have. If it's not one of these than it is probably a lite-on. If the tray looks like one of these you would have to have a dl burner to make your own backups.pic of drive trays

Thats good right? hehe I've modded every console but the 360. I only had mine that i got last year which I was too scared to mod. But now that I have 2 im gonna mod the older one once MS sends it back to me repaired from the rrod. I work at a video store so im just goign to rent every game and burn them :D
