Replacing VOB files in DVD structure

What I want to do is remove the "deleted scenes" from one of my DVDs, and add in a short film made by the same director in its place. I want to keep the original menus and so when the user selects "deleted scenes" the short film plays instead.

The deleted scenes are file VTS_03_1.VOB and so I made the short film into a VOB file and renamed it to replace this file. The video plays but in the wrong aspect ratio and there is no sound.

Am I missing out on something and is it possible to do what I want?

Replace the VOB with a new one using VobBlanker.
