I currently have a broken Hitachi GDR-3120L with version a 78FK ROM. I originally thought it was the lens that was the issue, so i purchased a new one but broke one of the clips while replacing it. Instead of buying a new lens I got frustrated and decided to just buy a whole new drive except.....it came with the 47 firmware and not the 78FK like the original one.
Basically what I am trying to do is flash the firmware on the 47 firmware drive, but I am wondering if I still need to retrieve the security key from the old 78FK ROM or can I just go ahead and put the new 47 drive in Mode B and continue flashing? The original 78 firmware drive has never been flashed by the way.
If you want to be able to play games on your 360 then you need the dvd drive key when you flash the new drive. That's true for all drives not just Hitachi ones.
ya but if he is spoofing the 47 to a 78, he is going to flash the old drive key to the 47. so open 78 firmware, in toolbox(always good to get newest version), copy drive key, then open 47 firmware goto drive key, paste, then just replace.
