OK so here goes. One of my 360's recently "died" on me recently, flashing 1 red light and giving me error E74. After doing a lot of searching I found a couple posts on several fourms that mentioned doing the x-clamp fix. So no problem done it before ao I did it again. The fix was a success. The unit booted up fine. After about 15-20 minutes of playing COD4 I got black vertical lines all down my screen.
I opened the 360 and played with the tension on the screws to see if maybe they were too tight and tried again althoug this time lasted about 45 minutes before getting the lines.
So after more searching I found a post suggesting to do a fix similar to the penny trick except on the ANA Chip instead. So I whipped together a quick stack and placed them on the ANA chip and put it all back together again.
Needless to say the lines came back once again but on a longer delay. I was able to play for about an hour and half this time round without any lines.
I've searched everywhere and came up empty. I'm at a stand still at the moment and am open to any suggestion.
Oh and I did try swapping out cables. This is a Halo 3 with the HDMI so I've tried about 3 HDMI cables, the component cables that came with this plus my S-Video cables off my kids Arcade console so its definately a problem with this 360.
Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance.

Remember this one if you're in the habit of carrying your console to chum's houses and hooking it up to different displays. It can end up trying to output the wrong signal, so you can't see anything or get a flickering screen. Fortunately, there's a fairly simple fix if this happens. Remove any discs from the tray and turn the thing off. Then turn it on using a gamepad. As it boots, hold down the Y button, then hit and hold the right trigger. The video settings will reset to default, and you'll stop your sobbing.

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried it on every TV in my house and tried messing around with the settings with no luck. But I didn't know that process with the controller. I'll put it back together when I get home from work and give that a shot. Thanks dude.

as much as it sucks, your 360 is probably dying. Mine also did that same exact thing, and within a couple weeks of it doing that (on COD 4) it red ringed

Finally got the chance to try the above method last night. After resetting the video it worked great for about 10 minutes then I got the lines again. I tried using a different game to test with too. (Forza 2 this time around).

So anyways I got the lines again after a few minutes the quickest time ever. After rebooting the 360 again it came back to one red light and E74 again. So much for that.

I was told to try the heat gun method so I'll give that a shot this weekend and if that doesn't work I guess I'll just scrap it and sell it for parts.

I went ahead and did that last night as well. I had took apart previously to apply a stack of compound to the ANA/HANA chip as per someone elses recommendation. So I figured while it was still open it wouldn't hurt to re-do the screws and AS5.

Like I mentioned earlier I think my last option would be the heat gun method. I'm going to head in to home depot this friday to pick up new heat gun as the one I got it pretty old and sketchy lookin.
