I saw an article on 1up.com saying...
Quote:
Week after week, Nintendo releases new WiiWare and Virtual Console games, and the storage capacity in Wiis the world over continues to shrink. So how do they intend to solve this issue for Virtual Console gluttons? Not with a hard drive, apparently, as Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says the company is working on a solution that's even better.... What could possibly be a better solution than a simple hard drive? Your guesses are as good as ours, but the obvious (and probably easiest) possibility might simply be to allow users to plug in any external hard drive they want through the Wii's USB ports

I don't know about you but I would love to bypass the internal memory and be able to legitimately run stuff off of a usb drive!!!

I still play my wii, just not as much. Gave my PSP to my son.

I suspect they're just going to let channels run off of the SD card and let it at that for the time being.

lol. If they think that that is way better than allowing you to attach a hdd... then they need to share what they are smoking!!

I just don't think they'll allow us to attach an external hard drive. They'll happily TELL US that its better to just use the SD rather than using an external drive though. Nintendo (and all the other console manufactures) has never been shy about telling consumers what they want.

Well that or they will just produce a sd card adapter that a external hard drive connects to.

To avoid hackers from using illegal software off of the device.

LOL

Anyway, I hope they don't do a bait-&-switch on us.
They may allow the use of HDD in the next firmware version, but also lock some other handy loop hole.

Meh, Waninkoko will fix it anyway xD

unfortunately I think they will. Once Waninkoko releases his iso loader, I think that Nintendo will make every effort to close the hombrew loophole. Of course we will be able to catch up... but it will make it inconvenient. Hmm.. homebrew versus being able to use external storage. That will be a hard one.

It is funny how everyone thinks Waninkoko's iso loader is going to make Nintendo block homebrew. The fact is Nintendo has already tried blocking homebrew by patching the old version of TP hack and Trucha Signed patches/disc.

Anyone that thinks Nintendo wasn't already working on patching loop holes before any of Waninkoko's applications came out is kidding themselves. So blaming the fall of the homebrew scene on 1 man is kinda stupid.

But anyway back to the orignal thread. I sure hope they offer something soon. Would be nice to have more storage.
