I am just preparing myself to jump into the mod world for my xbox 360, and i was wondering something. What is a good practice to be sure i am on top of firmware updates? Is there some up-to-date headline place that is good to keep an eye on to ensure that i keep my xbox properly updated (firmware wise)? Is there a good place to watch before attempting to install new updates/games that MAY pose a ban threat?
I realize that modding the 360 is a different animal then the xbox was (cutting power to d0 = mod chip off and safe)... there is a constant threat of banning. Because of this, i am finding the need to seek out a good place to watch daily/weekly to ensure that i am running as safe and as updated as i possibly can.
So all that said, what is the single most reliable, updated, and trustworthy source to watch to be positive that i am keeping up with the scene and spotting mass threats to my xbox 360's safety before i step into them (new games/dash updates/updated firmware releases)?
once you mod the 360 you run the chance being banned, no way around it.
this site is a good place to watch to keep an eye out for new FW. new stuff should be coming out after the fall update i would assume.
after that, there shouldnt be an updated FW unless they find something else so add in, which would be unlikely as they havent released that many updates in the last year or so for custom FW.
I do have one more question in my mind now though... perhaps you can help! If they roll these fall dash updates out, can i simply deny the update and wait for more to be learned about weather it is safe or not, or will it hit/ban me without a yes/no response (aka will the update be automatic and unknown to me)?
I realize that the new dash update might be just around the corner, and i'm determining if i should just NOT update my firmware until more is known after the dash is launched, or if it will be safe to do it now and just decline the update until the scene pokes its head into it and fixes it if necessary.
when the update comes out, you can hit 'no' on it, but you wont be able to connect to LIVE until you download and install the update. most of us on here will wait it out and see if its safe or not. not sure who the test dummy is going to be this time though.
