I have been using dvd shrink and dvd fab decrypter for about a year and recently decided to try the trial upgrade for dvd fab 5 gold. After the trial expired and before I had a chance to buy fab decrypter and shrink started taking three to four times longer t odo a backup that before I installed the fab 5 gold. Ihave tried uninstalling all three programs and then reinstalling my original fab along wtih the shrink. Still having the same problem. What can I do or is there a better program that I can download and use?

Thanks,
Nate

Your drive might have slipped into PIO mode, which is the reason for the longer times! check out your burners/drives and enable DMA again:

it is always wise to keep your computer free and clear by cleaning your computer and defragging your hard drives, especially if you are burning a lot of DVD/CDs! I do it at least once a week to every day on heavy usage and my machine runs like it's just out of the box. Windows is kept free and clean to run everything perfectly.

Good advice by bonehead btw, but my reason for posting is that after you've done the reg clean and manually removed any folders etc left over, do a shut-down then reboot. A quirky thing with the "family" pc (xp home) is a plain restart often doesn't get the system to recognise the changes made....it needs a full shut-down. Go figure.

cleaning out your computer and such doesn't explain away the taking three to four times longer to do a backup ! The only explanation is PIO mode instead of DMA mode! this explains the very long time for backups!~

Hey to IHoe. I didn't suspect the dma change as I believed it was only forced errors that made the settings change. Such in and un-installs have never changed my dma etc. Well..I've learned something new.LOL.

and I'm sure there is more to it than just installing and uninstalling programs! why else would it take 3-4 times longer to back up a DVD.

@onya..... there are more reasons than you think why a drive or Windows reverts to PIO mode, here is a good read:
