New Build - Can Anyone Recommend A Motherboard/Processor ??

Im going to be building a new pc soon but am unsure of the parts i want to put in.
I know i want Nvdia & Intel but am not too sure of the motherboard/processor i want.
I would only be using the pc for gaming, internet & listening to music & watching films.
I was thinking of getting an Asus board & a quad core (Q6600) processor.
Can anyone recommend a motherboard/processor ?
Any suggestions to GPU, PSU, RAm etc is welcome.

one interesting thing (sam note this) that when they did the same test with a 4870X2 games benifited from Quads alot more than duals, and i am sure this is down to CF needing a big overhead due to the CPU "talking" to both GPUs rather than a single GPU card.
this is the reason i think sam made those very impressive increaces.

Except for Crysis, where a dual core will bottleneck you, whether or not you have crossfire.

Ok cheers guys for the info.
Ill have to look into it more, as im unsure about the motherboard.
I was going to get the Q6600 from Scan for £122 along with the Radeon HD4850/HD4870 but its the motherboard im stuck at.
Im not really bothered about overclocking options as long as its a good board that supports a lot of the latest features.
I have a budget of about £130 - £180 for a motherboard & about £150 - £200 for a graphics card.
Sorry for taking so long to reply guys.
Ill get back to you & let you know how i get on.

id get the asus maximus II formula as you plan for quads. biostar are superb with duals but flop with quads

Ahh it's a P45, ok, I knew that. Just struck me as odd as I'm sure the original Maximus wasn't a P35?

Edit: I was a noob. With that budget, the Maximus II seems realistic, if perhaps a little unnecessary, just because you can spend doesn't mean you should. But what do I know, I spend even when I can't! lol

boozer his budget is punds, and i gave him one in about the middle of it.
sam the original was x38.
there was a strike extreme 680, then a striker ii extreme 790i, now a striker ii extreme again but x58, bad naming, not as bad as nvidia though, the new gt1x0 are the 94 anf 7500s re badged, and the gts1x0 are the 9800s rebadged (9800gt and gtx+)
so the G80 is still going strong 2 years later with its 3rd rename :(

Man, I'd forgotten how ludicrously expensive the Rampage is. By comparison the Maximus II is a much better value product.

yo can get the rampage for £180, but imo not worth it over the P45, even with dual gfx, as these cards dont even use the bandwidth of 8x pcie 2.0, there are what, 2-5% diference?

Hmm if he wants a Q6600 then I doubt he wants to get a high end motherboard. Pounds or dollars, it's still a lot more than the other one.

That is a very valid point... Would you tell the difference from an EP45, especially with the new binning of the Q6600s?
