hi, guys my xbox 360 elite is 4 months old i never had heard any abnormal sound frm my xbox 360 till now it was very much silent even if it was turned on it never gave any grinding sound....but recently when i brought assassins creed and inserted the disk in my xbox 360,my xbox detected the game amd started but it froze with a black screen and all the time the disk was read my xbox made wierd grinding noise (the noise was not continuos but it was as if the drive is reading the disk and seeking..like grrr..pause again grr..)
when i removed my hdd and started the game again i ran fine i also played the game,the problem was that the game wouldn`t stat with hdd. i googled and found out that the assassins creed loads after 5 to 10 mins with hdd in few consoles ......."but this is not my problem my main problem is that now the drive is making noise in other games too,every thing is fine the reading time of disk etc but this noise is driving me mad as it was not there before , i googled it and foun out that benq drives make noises which are normal but my question is why these grinding noise was not there until i played assassins creed.if this helps when i start my console it makes small grr.noise as if drive is started previously it was not there .plzzz help me not playing my console since 5 days waitin for u r answer .

woow gutted dude. Weird how its connected to your HDD.. never heard of that happening before.. if it helps ive got assassins creed and have an elite which has a benq drive.. on startup it can take time to load occasionally but other then that it seems fine. Maybe its a dodgy disk? .. Does your disk now have scratches on it. are you definitly sure its the HDD and not the cd drive making the noise.
Also after this happened have you tried a different game.. do they still work as normal or do they make the noise as well now?

If you initiate maintenance, the hard drive's cache will be cleared, including all software updates.
If you called MS i'm sure that's what they would have you do.
iam sure the sound is frm drive and not hdd and the disk has no scratches ...i said that many say benq drive make grinding noise when they read disks and it is normal,,
my console reads disk same as before no problem at all. the thing i wnted to know is the cause of the drive`s noise,people say benq drive do make such noise,if so then why my console was quiet when it was new till 4 months
More than likely if you take it apart you'll find the problem. I've had a 360 that wouldn't play any disc. I opened it up and the metal washers that sit in the spindle were on the bottom of the magentic circle. That will for sure make the drive really loud if not cause a open tray error. As for loud drives you don't know what loud is until you have a hitachi with a xcm dvd window kit.
Leave the hdd attached. Boot up AssCree and let is sit on the black screen. It may take 3 minutes to boot up if this is the first time. This was a common problem for a lot back when the game first came out.
After this first boot, it should boot up normally from then on.
