whats the best way to determine exactly what type of modchip will work on your wii? I want to buy a wii clip but I dont want to buy the wrong one.

You need to know what chip set you have and order the correct one for that chip. Some times you can find out the chip set used by your serial #, theres a web site that I used. I try to find a link

Heres the site to check what chipset you have, http://wiitracker.nintendo-scene.com/search.php but be aware that its not 100%.

The only way to be absolutely sure what modchip you need is to open the wii up and see what chipset you have.
