Ok I followed the DVD to VCD guide on this site.

http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2avi_tmpgenc.cfm

I thought all was going well until after about 4 hours of waiting for it to finish converting and such. I tried to play it and the sound was off and the picture was flickering like crazy. I cant figure out why it is doing this. I followed the guide step by step so i dont know what i did wrong. If you have any ideas please post 'em! Thanks

well Just From a Casual Glance at the Guide I did see one problem with it, In DVD2AVI you should Not use the "44.1khz->48khz" setting cuz this Can Cause Sync Problems...Are you Backing up a NTSC DVD or a PAL DVD??? if it was a NTSC DVD was it from a Film Source?? and if it was did you use the "Forced Film" option???

Hi, Most Movies are Shot on Film which is 23.97fps/24fps but the NTSC standard Calls for 29.976fps/30fps so what they Do is use a Method Called "3:2 Pulldown" or "Teliclineing" which Splits the 23.976fps Progressive Film into interlaced Fields and they use these Fields to Make up Extra Frames so it complies with the NTSC Standard at 29.976fps, But on a Monitor and sometimes on your TV you will Get a Jumpy sort of Look when Viewing this interlaced Content..But there is an Option on DVD2AVI called "Forced Film" which removes the 3:2 Pulldown and returns the Video Back to Progressive 23.976fps Film, This option can Only be useing on NTSC DVD"s and only DVD"s shot on Film which 95% of Movies are , Useing this Option will Give you a Much Smoother looking Playback on your Monitor and your TV...So You can follow that Guide allmost exactly accept do NOT use the "44.1KHZ<->48KHZ" setting under Audio and enable the "Forced Film" option under "Video" to "Field Operation"...And when encodeing to VCD in TMPGEnc you MUST use the "NTSC Film" VCD Template...This will Most Likely Solve the Problems you are Haveing ,So you will have to make a New D2V project File and Wav audio file in DVD2AVI and make a New VCD/Mpeg1 file useing the "NTSC Film" Template...Cheers

I have a dvd burner but i dont have the cash to buy the dvd's (unless someone knows a place to get em cheap, then you can just tell me where and i will forget this whole mess!)Could the problem be the GOP stucture? It says IBBPBBPBBPBBPBBPBB. I dont know what that means but maybe it is wrong? Plz, if anyone knows what is going on, post your ideas!

No, The GOP Is Fine Accept that the Length of each gop should be 18 frames or less...DVD-R"s are Pretty Cheap, Like about $1 each if you Buy 50 or about .75c if you Buy 100, You can get them cheap on e-bay or BestBuy , I usually do not have the Money to spend on all the Movies I do So I usually end up trying to get 3 or 4 movies on each DVD-R instead of one which ends up saveing me a Lot of Money and on my 32 inch TV set the Differance in Quality is Not big enough to be of any Real concern.......
