Is it common for a modded xbox 360 to not be able to read backup discs once in a while, but when you eject and reinsert the disc it starts fine. Could this be a laser problem?

had a friends that did this last year, he would have to eject the game like 25 times before it would actually read the game. replaced the laser, console started working fine.

opened up the drive, pulled the laser our to find which model it was, bought one on ebay, removed the anti-static point on the new laser, and put it in the 360.
when you go to take your old one out, make sure you count how many times you had to turn the screws to get em out otherwise you will play hell getting it in at the same position as the old one.

Did you have to desolder to get the lens off or was it just unscrewing.

just unscrewing. the only desoldering you will have to do is to remove the antistatic point on the new laser. however since i didnt have a soldering iron with me at college, i just heated up a small screwdriver on the stove and used it. worked like a charm.
