I have tried several times to burn a DVD-R without success. First, I got the message "write operation was not successful. Selection timeout occurred. Check cables adn power. The disc is not successful recorded". Nothing was running in the background to save RAM. I got this message twice. So I uninstalled the software and the USB and reinstalled and plug in the USB cord. This time I got further along but then I received this message, "Burn failed. Burn process failed at 2x(2,760 KB/s). If you know why I can't successful burn a DVD-R, please let me know what I'm doing wrong. All help will be appreciated.

Myrtle7,
I can tell you are using an external burner and -R blank media. Thats about all I can surmise from your post.
I want to know everything about your system:
OS, CPU, RAM, HDD. What DVD programs you have installed and which ones you are trying to use.
Tell me about your burner and the blank media you have.

What USB are you using, 1.1 or 2.0?

Cheers,
Frank

The operating system is XP; the CPU is Compaq; the RAM is 224 MB; and the HDD is 74.5. I don't know if the USB is an 1.0 or 2.0, how would you know the different? The DVD program installed is the software that came along with the system. 321Studios DVD-XCopy copy is the software. The drive is a Sony external system.

Hi again Myrtle7,

Here's some external bus info:

USB 1.1 Max data rate: 1,500 KB/s
USB 2.0 Max data rate: 60,000 KB/s
FireWire Max data rate: 50,000 KB/s

So if you are using 1.1 and trying to burn at 2,760 KB/s, your buss speed is not fast enough to keep the Sony's buffer filled.

By CPU, I was referring to your processor. Is it an Intel?
