Hey, so...

I read somewhere that leaving the PS3's upscaler off was perfectly fine if the TV's upscaler was good.

First question: Is this true?

I was messing around with my PS2 games, and when I fiddled with the video mode in Robotech: Battlecry (I switched it from "NTSC 40Hz" to "480p Progressive Scan" mode)), the entire screen went from 4:3 to a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

Second question: Is that supposed to happen?

I figured this was probably a good thing, so I put in Ace Combat 5, since it's also got a feature to toggle between 4:3 and 16:9 anamorphic widescreen. Well, I put it on 16:9, but it was still stuck in 4:3 mode. When I continued playing, I noticed that the screen just didn't look right.

Third question: For games like Ace Combat 04, 5, FFXII, and GT4, will I have to manually set the TV's upscaler on Full? Or is there some way for the PS3 to recognize the widescreen automatically and adjust for it?
