Hello everyone!
I thought i would ask a quick question...
Last night i just installed my LG 8163B i got off of ebay. (Internal IDE model configured as master in my puter... running windows XP).
I put in alone in the dark... at first i didn't think it was working... didn't figure out what disc was in there. i then ejected the disc, closed rawdump, put the tray back in and waited for it to read the disc, then started rawdump... still no info on the screen.
I pushed the start button anyway, and it ran... detected alone in the dark, and seemed to do just fine.
Woke up this morning, and it completed successfully. Checked the bit size... perfect! So i moved on...
This morning i popped in Super Smash Brothers Brawl... remembering how i did it last night i repeated just the same. closed rawdump, put the disc in, waited for it to finish reading, opened rawdump and hit start dump. this time i got a faulty drive error. tried it several more times... then i rebooted my pc. Put the disc in again... same thing!
as i was in a hurry to get to work, i just shut it down and left...
I am wondering though... why would this happen? are some games not working with the LG 8163B dump method with rawdump? why would alone in the dark work just fine with rawdump 2.0, but SSBM not? Is there a problem with my drive??
Thanks for the help!
Drive: LG 8163B
OS: Windows XP
.net framework 2.0 INSTALLED
Program using: Rawdump 2.0

yea, the problem is that you cant use raw dump. there is another program that you use for DL disc games. At least when i made my copy of SSBB i had to. I dont remember the name of the program but just search the forums on how to backup SSBB and you should find your answer in no time.

100% Confirmation
Raw Dump doesnt handle Smash Bros
Ive backed up over 20 games - Smash Bros always gives me Faulty Drive error.
I will try again with V2.1 of Rawdump and report back...

i have friidump running as we speak... i'll update you tomorrow as to my success. when i left the house, it had been running 6 hours and was at 79%... seems to be grabbing the full disk ok.
BTW, when i started friidump, it told me my drive was not supported. My drive is indeed on the list of supported drives though. It proceeded anyway and began the dump... go figure.
I would give you my drive model, but i cannot remember offhand right now. i believe i listed it in a previous post though if anyone is interested.
I'm running friidump v4.0

well, i finished friidump, and the bit check came out ok. now the problem i have is that the puter i have my wii drive ripper on does not have a dual layer dvd burner =(
i DO have one on my other puter... but getting vista to network with xp is quite the challenge...
I'm now up against either buying a new dual layer dvd burner, or figuring out something else...

you can probably get a reliable external DL burner. I got one for $100 two years ago and it also had light scribe. I used it for anything dual layered (Xbox 360, and wii).

why not just buy an external hard drive? comes in real handy for keeping and moving large files around. can use it to watch movies on the tv then!
