I was opening up the wii this afternoon to clean the lense and at some point a white 1 1/2 inch arm type thingy fell out. I have no idea what it came from or where it goes. I don't have a digicam right now since the kid dropped it and broke it so I'm hoping htis happened to someone else and they know where this thing goes. Any guesses?

Need a better picture. Possibly from a different angle.

From the picture, it looks like it is part of the drive mechanism. Possibly the piece on the side that helps with ejecting the disk. I see a tension spring on the side.

Will your Wii function?

Has your console been dropped?

Mod your gaming console today!

Wii turns on, won't read discs. It WILL eject discs and allow me to insert them, but it won't spin the disc. Thank you for trying to help. Really appreciate it.

The same thing happened with me just now, and I just cant figure out where to put it. It would be great if someone could post a photo or video of their dvd drive. Then we can see it and fix our problem. Any help will be appreciated.

its the plastic inside the disk reader itself you need to open up your disk reader and place it back. Ive opened up my disk reader plenty of times and its quite dangerous if you dont know what you are doing. The plastic sits on a cog, which helps spins the disk. When opening up the disk reader do not open rapidly open with caution cause springs could just fall out and then youll have issues. open up carefully look for the slot that it might fit in and put it back then close it all up.

Sorry for not posting pictures dont have any.

Thank you for the help. I used the traditional method to fix the problem: search and google.

Heres the solution with picture:

I figured it out a while ago but I didn't know how to put it in words so I didn't post back in the topic. I figured someone else could put it better.

What I did was put my buddies Wii next to mine and we tore it down until we found the piece.

Thank you for the link! I managed to put the thing back in its place. However that didn't solve the problem - here's exactly what happens:

1. Without a disk in the console starts normally.

2. When I insert a disk there's immediately a "beep" sound, although I'm not sure if it's an actual "beep" or just a mechanical sound (either way it didn't make that sound before I opened the DVD drive). Also if I cold boot the Wii with a disk in, it starts with that beep sound again.

3. The disk then spins, and when the cover is removed I see the red light of the laser lens lights up.

4. after a second of normal spinning the clicking sound starts and goes on for several seconds.

5. The screen goes black and displays the general failure message.

Any ideas what may be going wrong?

BTW I didn't completely remove the two blobs of solder on the new lens, I just "dug" paths through them (just like the blob on the original lens was). Could this be causing the problem?

Thanks a lot for the help!

Youre quite welcome. Does the disc get stuck in the drive? Coz thats what happened with mine. There was a problem with the eject mechanism after I assembled it.
What I did was pretty risky- I opened up the drive itself and figured out the problem after several hours. I dont think you have the same problem. The drive made scratching sound and it took a while before the game started. Dont do anything on your own unless youre absolutely sure of what your doing. If youre like me, want to do it all yourself, take a photo of the drive (although Im not absolutely 100% sure if your drive is causing the beep) in case something goes wrong.

It loads and ejects the disk just fine, the problem starts after it starts spinning it. I'll shoot a video of it and post it later today.
Thanks!

OK I shot a video showing how the console behaves:

If you have any ideas what's wrong, please let me know.

Thanks!

Let me ask you one thing first- have you installed the chip? If yes- is the red light on?

Yes, there's a Wiikey Clone installed (I didn't install it myself)

The power indicator light works (red/green), also when I insert a disc I see the laser's red light for a brief moment before it slides under the disc. Is that what you wanted to know?

I just thought maybe you had a solderless chip like mine.
