hi guys! I have this problem with my psp. When I turned my unit on, it will display the "PSP Logo" and will move on to the wavy lines. However, it will be stuck at that state for a long time. After waiting for around 5 minutes, a message will appear: "disc cannot be read" (i have no umd loaded in the bay). after that, the menu will show up.
The problem is, when i play my ISO games, the message "do you want to quit the game" always pop up.. (Just like pressing the home button).
Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way for my psp to stop looking for umd's upon start up?
Thanks!

Okay, your UMD drive isnt working.
To Stop reading the UMD :
Get into the XMB (menu). Go to Settings, System Settings , and disable the UMD auto start. Restart the PSP now. It should disable that.
For the games:
1. Turn off your PSP fully (by holding the power button)
2. Turn it on again while holding the R button
3. This should bring you to the Recovery Mode
4. Go to Config
5. Click the UMD mode until you reach to NP9660
6. Exit the Recovery Mode
Do not mess with the Recovery mode unless you know what you are doing.
I hope this works

MrGooey is correct! Or you can also press Select on the PSP and you can change the UMD settings there as well for the games.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I tried your suggetions but unfortunately, that did not work.
by the way, Im using m33 3.52.
(and i cant use the "pressing select button method").
I checked my recovery settings and the original UMD mode there is M33 driver-No UMD. What is the difference with NP660?
I noticed that when i load a UMD in the PSP before turning it on, everything works just fine.... But what if i dont have a UMD? is there a way for my psp to stop looking for umds?
Thanks!

I recommend using Np9660. M33 driver is made by M33 team, while NP9660 is made by Sony.

So, you turn on the PSP and put the UMD inside, and it doesn't work ???

My psp works perfectly if there is a UMD loaded inside the UMD bay.
I am having problems playing ISO's if there is no UMD inside.
I have already followed your instructions (Turning the UMD auto start off, and setting the UMD mode to "no UMD"). But Iam still having problems.
Will re-installing my firmware fix this?
Thanks!

This exact same thing also happens to my PSP Slim with CFW 5.00 M33-3. :(
When I turn on the PSP, I feel like the UMD drive is reading or spinning (even if there's no disc in the drive!) and the only thing that you can see on the screen is the "waves" background and the animating "circle icon" on the bottom-right corner (the XMB doesn't appear!) ...and when I try to open the empty UMD drive tray, the circle icon disappears, and when you close, the circle icon appears again! Then after a while, the message "Disc cannot be read" appears (again, even if there's no disc in the drive), and after pressing OK, that's the only time the XMB shows up.
It's not like this before, it only started a few days (or maybe a week) 'after' I upgraded my firmware to CFW 5.00 M33-3, so i'm thinking the firmware upgrade has nothing to do with this. I don't have any plugins, homebrews, custom themes, or any other software installed in my PSP... just a plain, basic PSP Slim.
Also, when I am about to start playing ISO games, it just suddenly asks "Do you want to quit this game?", as if I pressed the 'Home' button, even if I didn't! ...my 'Home' key doesn't seem to be stuck.
Upon researching on the internet, I have also found a thread that relates to the same problem:
http://www.consolespot.net/forums/psp-he...md-problem.html
It is said that it might be caused by a corrupted ID-Storage and can possibly be fixed using the Despertar del Cementario v7 (with ID-Storage regeneration features)? or using the KeyCleaner v1.4 (for Slim) by Chilly Willy?
It seems like a lot of people are experiencing this... :(

hi guys,
I just did a short term solution to this problem.
I just keep a UMD inside the UMD Drive....
That way, upon start up, the psp has something to read. and after recognizing the disc, the XMB will show up. This is much faster than waiting for the psp to read a UMD that is not there....
This might not completely solve our problem but at least it will eliminate the "do you want to quit this game" message while playing ISO games.

Yup, same thing here... as a temporary fix, I just keep a UMD disc inside the drive, and all the problems go away! It also proves that there's nothing wrong with the UMD hardware since it reads UMD discs normally & loads UMD games normally... so i'm thinking it might be a 'software' problem? Am I right?
Even with the temporary fix, it still annoys me knowing that it's not like this before :( ...so, it would still be best if we can find a complete solution to this problem.
Anyway, to give you an update, I already tried using the KeyCleaner v1.4 to analyze if there are corrupt IDstorage keys... fortunately, after analyzing, all my keys reported to be okay! and yet, the problem is still there :( ...But, for your info, the KeyCleaner only checks 'some' of the keys, and not all of them... could it be that it somehow missed some corrupt keys? or are there any corrupt keys at all?
I would still like to try out the Despertar del Cementerio v7 with 'IDstorage regeneration' features to see if it can offer a cure... but the problem is, I don't have a Pandora battery :(
