Xbox Backup Creating - Disc Prepping Question

Hi everyone. Was just wondering what methods of disc cleaning you guys use before creating a backup, or what methods you use when backing up a really scratched game. My copy of MLB2K8 that i bought used is soo scratched up. My friend works at a video store and rubbed some sort of liquid on the disc, and rubbed it around... The bottom of the disc looks brand new. But the game still wont backup due to tons of errors. I think the product he used just layed down a new surface on the disc, but all the deep scratches below still made the disc unreadable....

Anyways, what are the products/methods you guys use. (used to have a cd/dvd doctor but i misplaced it)
