I just wanted to thank everyone here on the forums... spent a couple weeks reading up on the forums and asking questions... made the modification process go through without a single snag!
The process from modding the system to backing up the games, and all the other questions that come along with it would have been so much more complex and difficult had i not had your help. Sat down the night before last, opened the unit no problem (tricky to do, but not if you know what your up against up front), modded it, and closed it back up in a snap.
Thanks all for all the help! I was afraid to do this process... but after coming to this forum, i did it with no stress at all. I'm now a verry happy man =)
nice, good to hear man. I was just like that before I started doing it, then one night, I just was like screw it, if I mess it up, I'll get another, and with the help here, I got it through. So glad to see you were able to get help, and as others ask questions, contribute here also!
Will do! I was thinking about doing this since 2006... no joke. When i read how complex the procedure was... i said forget it!
I realized how much work it was... just to even open the dang case. Its really not hard... just long and complex. The difficulty i would say is making sure you know all stages of the process before you start... as i can see MANY things go wrong if you didn't know one little detail... such as ejecting the drive several times while windows boots, or what media to use, or what firmware you should use, or what you should do with which drive, or what precautions you should take, or... the list goes on and on and on...
I have to say the largest factor to my decision to mod my console was when i stumbled on a thread here talking about what pc drives allow xbox backups right on the pc. If i had to disconnect my xbox and go through the mode b backup procedure every time i wanted to back up a game, i would have never done it. that is far too complex to want to mod a console. It is so much more convenient just leaving my xbox where it lies and running the backups on my pc!
Anyway, this forum has been a huge help to all of this. I would still be clueless had i not come here. Sort of like the hub for modding knowledge... you just have to plug in to it for a bit to understand what to do.
And for those I?ve seen on the forums looking for the easy answer to all their questions, without the patience to search around to find that info for themselves, i would suggest forgetting it altogether. Modding a Xbox isn't hard, but if you lack the patience to do your homework on this complex procedure, you are just going to frustrate yourself, or worse, brick your Xbox. Be dang sure you are comfortable with the process before beginning!
