Recently I bought a 120GB FUJITSU 2.5" IDE hardrive and used it on my fully functional EX5000 PVR, But when I start using the PVR functions on the remote, I'm getting error message as "hardrive full or not installed". I also want to tell that the HD is for the laptop one and why I went for this is because there wasn't any PVR 2.5" IDE drives available at the shop at that time.
I chcked and make sured the IDE pins are pushed all the way back and flush to the PCB and happy with that. I'll be thankful if someone could help me to get this HD work,

Thanks
JP...

First of all have you tried recording something on the PVR, It will give this error message if the HD is empty. Try pressing record then leave it for a few mins, then go back and press the PVR button :)

If I try to use 'Timer Settings' then I get the REC indicator initially. Subsequently I get 'scrambled channel' and the recording stops. When first I try to go to PVR Manager, via MENU, I get 'drive full or not installed'. When I next go to PVR Manager, it shows the recording file details but when I select OK the screen goes/stays blank.

If I try to just press RECord I get the indicator showing it is recording but it stops after 4 seconds.

Anybody got any suggestions? My EX5000 came with a Western drive already installed.
Thanks

Why would anyone want to invalidate any warranty they have by doing this before checking out the obvious? 9 out of 10 times this is just a firmware or setting issue nothing to do with loose connections inside the box.

Oops wrong button...

Yes I take your point HiTeck.

Thanks for bringing me back down to earth a little (I was just so pleased I'd fixed it and wanted to give something back to the community).

But there is clearly a positive message from my observation. You can try time and time again with Firware - Reboots - Button presses and so on but if you look through the side grill of the box and see the pins visible (it only takes a few seconds to check) and can stop one load of hassle. From then on you make your own choice on how to remedy the problem.

With regard to the warranty route - My seller indicated - If you install non FTA firmware you invalidate your warranty anyway (seems a bit of a get out to me but i've read this on other posts).

Anways, I've fixed mine and just wanted to explain how. I hope it helps others.

Thanks,

Cummbo.

Hiteck and Cummbo, Thanks for your feedback.
I tried to record something as mentioned by 'HiTeck'. But still giving the same error as mentioned earlier when I pressed the PVR button. I could see the name of the recorded file in the PVR Manager, but it lookes like the recording went only for 4 sec and stoped as mentioned by 'toomyling'.
I even tried to play that 4 sec video but nothing played and back to the same circle.
Also I didn't see anything wrong with the PCB as instruceted by Cummbo.

It appears to be the box is not able to recognize the 120GB FUJITU HD. I am just thinking to reformat the HD... but wondering will the box be able to read the HD if it is formatted by using Windows.

There are only 2 types of HDD recommended for the new euro 5000pvr

Recommended hard drives maximum size is 120GB. Recommended manufacturers are Western Digital Scorpio series OR Seagate Momentus series.

Contact the supplier i am sure they will have them in stock

Try this,

Take the HDD out, turn the box on for a min then off and re-insert hard drive. Turn box back on and try a recording, make sure that you have pluged the hard drive all the way home it is quite a tight fitting, if that doesn't work as suggested by cybcorp try the recomended hard drive preferably a Western Digit@l.

It has to be the ones without the plastic parts covering the pins on the hdd otherwise you cannot insert it fully

I would like to extract my HD from my box, to follow, Cumumbos ideas, but no amount of tugging with the 'eject tape' is good enough to permit removal. Is there a special tool, similar to those for extracting car radios, which can be used?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

It is not working which is why I want to follow Cummbo's advice by removing the HD, switching the box off and on. Use it for a while then turn it off, re-insert the HD and turn it back on again. I want to do this before I send it back.

Hi Toomyling.

My problem was a connection inside and NOT with what I think your suggesting which is struggling to pull the HD out of the slide carrier. I put the removal tape on my HD and was able to remove it with a firm pull. You can pull the front plastic door off the front of the digibox if you are careful by opening it and levering it off with a screwdriver (there are gaps in the two hinges to pull it off the hinge pins but you need to be very careful or you will break it!) Once the door is off there is more room to get a finger and thumb grip on the HD but it's still difficult. DONT take your box apart if there is no visible connection fault as I earlier described!!!!! You will invalidate your warranty for certain.

Good luck with your HD.

Cummbo.

As said less complicated solutions are always the place to start. And that is usually the solution to your problem, (re-insert HDD).

I have a 2.5'' ide hdd so i formatted it with ntfs and put it into the eurovox but im getting the hd full or not installed error. The hdd i put in was 60gbs. Does anybody know what format should it be formatted in. I have tried all the fixes suggested here but no luck so far. hope somebody can help. Has anybody got a hdd other than a seagate or western digital to work in it? thanks

your supposed to use 80-120 gb but i wouldn't say thats your problem.I bought two and had problems with both.I got one working after hours of pushing hdd in ,taking it out, press rec etc.I decided to open up the other one and try a solution i came across on another forum. It worked but it will void your warranty. The casing for the hdd wasn't connected to the main board properly.HDD's get blamed a lot but my experience is the problem could well be poor QC on the manufacturers part

Thanks for that. Im a bit wary of opening the box because I know that the warranty will be void. I tried pushing down through the top vents with a skiny screwdriver to ensure it was connected to the motherboard but it didnt do anything. I know I could check it better if i took the cover off and had a look. But I only got it 2 days ago and that would mean the end of the warranty. Quick question 4 you, the place i got it from says that the warranty is void if the fta software isnt on it. So does that mean that the warranty is gone anyway? or can i just put the fta software on it then send it back? Thanks

Hi there nowthenn, if you are wanting to send it back to supplier and they have that clause, "only accept returns with FTA firmware on", then reflash the FTA firmware right back on to the box, they are none the wiser - your problem is with the HDD. You will find the FTA firmware in Eamo's FTA library at the bottom of my post, it is in Eurovox PVR folder then Firmware then Archive.

before you send it back, keep on trying the solutions posted here.I know its tedious but as i said previously, one of my boxes started recording but it took AGES!!!I only opened the other one because as i live in ireland ,wasn't sure i would be covered for P+P and couldn't be bothered reflashing.wouldn't recommend it though because if its something more serious than a loose connection your stuck with a useless box.

i have tried everything listed in this thread that i can and no joy. I put in a seagate momentus 60gbs hdd that was raw and when i go to epg and try to time a recording i get the had drive full or not installed error. the pins are defo in all the way and it looks like its connected to the motherboard properly. So it mustnt see anything under 80 gbs. Has anybody been able to put in a hdd that was under the 80gbs or one that wasnt seagate or western digital and got it to recognise it? thanks for the help so far anyway

folks, eventually got it to work. Something simple that I overlooked. Just took the jumper completely off the ide hdd, re inserted it and it worked.Got the 40gb and 60gb to work. I know they arent massive hdds but i dont record too much stuff really and it saved me buying a new hdd.
