Just recieved repaired XBOX 360. Its asking to update?!?

I had the three rings and sent it away for repair. Got it back this morning and its asking me to update as soon as I turn it on? It says its for security and proper functionality of the console.

Should I update? It is giving me the option to go back to the dashboard screen? I do plan to get this 360 re modded once the Lite-on firmware is released.

i say ya just update it. its probably because its an old console thats been retrofitted with the lite-on drive.

I would also guess to go for it. You will atleast be at the same dashboard as the rest of us, since the new one hasn't come out yet.

I went to get my 360 modded (firmware method) and the guy said i had one of the new Microsoft drives. The guy had to replace my drive with an Hitachi drive. When i got home and plugged in the 360, it prompted this update that said:
"To proceed, Security and program updates are required. Console updates will be added to ensure security and proper functionality. If you decline, you will be returned to the Xbox Dashboard. Do want to accept the update"
I clicked on No and then it went to my old Dashboad, not the NXE dashboard. So my question is, should I update?

if u want nxe or to ever use live again then yes. and btw the liteon firmware will be released on the 24th so u didnt need to get ur drive swapped.

it is unlikely to ban you many of us are running the NXE update including myself without being banned. What is more likely to get you banned is the fact that you had a lite-on drive in your 360 and then the guy put in a hitachi. M$ can tell you've got the wrong drive inside.

look at it this way. if u do not update then u cannot use live...period.

If you do update and then u get banned u cannot use live..period


so it really doesnt make a difference does it?

the only way to answer the question is to go ahead and do it and see if u get banned.


and the update isnt going to ban u. it is going to update the system with the new dash nxe wtf u want to call it. getting banned comes from just having a modded system and/or playing nonstealthed backups.

the only reason that it says all that bs about security when it asks u to update is cause they have to say that for every update.

so u have 2 options

1. dont update= cant use live
2. update and u can use live...untill u get banned which could be 1 month or years.

at this point either just do it or get ur liteon drive back and then mod with 1.5 cause it will be far less chance of being banned than the drive swap that u currently have

Just one more thing, Can't I get the guy to switch back the drives and put back on the warranty seal? That way i can get the lite-on update coming on the 24th?

yea u probably can, warranty seal doesnt matter unless u plan on sending to MS for repair at some point
