Ok, I'm pretty sure I've done everything right so far.

I have a NTSC Wii, a normal NTSC TV, and normal Wii cables

- I've used the Twilight Hack to install the Homebrew Channel
- I've installed DVDX using IOS249
- I put the loader on my SD card, the HBC recognizes it
- I've downloaded a 4.3 GB No More Heroes NTSC .iso
- I patched the .iso with the backup creator
- I burned the 3.9 GB partition.iso with ImgBurn on a 4.7 GB Maxwell DVD-RW at 16x for safety with verify on, no errors (although I went through about 4 discs before I got no errors)

Now I have my DVD, I pop it into the Wii, open up the loader, and on on Title Identification, I get ERROR! ... (ret = -4100)! I even tried to boot it with Gecko OS (downloaded from Homebrew Browser), and it says No DVD!

What did I do wrong? T_T

there are reports that you have to have your dvd burner booktype set to (DVD-ROM)..i personally have burned them at 2x's without the booktype set(as my burner doesn't have the option of changing the booktype)..you are burning them to fast..i used memorex(usually crappy dvd's but work the best for me so far)and they work fine..don't forget to install CIOS, and install your dvdx using the advanced setting install and use the setting ISO249..also if you are using RCA cables you will have a black and white screen..you have to use either component cables(High Def cables) or a VGA box to get color..

here is an update..found a new launcher that fixes the black and white picture using the rca cables: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/3/702801

@mikeyhegs..are you using the new loader or waninkoko's? no error codes? if you are using wiigators..are you installing the wad file through wad manager?..plus remember you need to set your burner to burn at 2x's..memorex is so far the only media working for me..i used taiyo yudens(my personal faves) and they keep giving me errors :( ..here's the way i installed mine:

i installed CIOS, through wad manager..then opened up DVDX..went to advanced install..set it to IOS249..installed it..i installed Gecko OS..placed wiigator's backup launcher wad, in the WAD folder on my SD card..went to wad manager installed it..then opened up my backup ISO..went to the folder with my backup creator .exe file AND common keys file(i safeguard and remove any iso i have in that folder, before i drag and drop my iso file ONTOP of my .exe file..you get the "partition.ISO" file..right click on this file and select "Burn with IMGBURN"..this should open up imgburn with the file preloaded..set your burn speed to 2x's even if your burner only burns at 4x's for the lowest setting..i don't verify mine..cuz it'll either work or not..no point in wasting 30 mins..haha..let it burn..place disc in wii..go to the window icon with the backup loader image(the one with wings)..click on it..leave all options on default..click launch game..should take a min..then brings up a launch screen with all the options(for pal60..etc.)..let it load..another screen may pop saying "no SD codes found"(that's ok)..then should load..if you get a screen with jumbled up letters..then it's a bad burn..should flash a green screen and then load..these launchers take awhile to load also..also what game are you trying out? some games don't work..

NOTE: also use DVD-R's..wii seems to like them better..

I'm using wiigator's release. I followed step-by-step what you described. I'm trying super mario galaxy now - I have a few others I've yet to burn. I'm using verbatim dvd-rs, at 1x with imgburn. Occasionally I get a message that there is "no dvd identity" with some jumbled up letters written right on top of the error msg. No luck yet - I'm going to try the force unleashed now.

EDIT: I've been using the backup creator with a GUI - has anyone had similar problems with that? I'm going to relocate the original creator and give that a shot.

yeah..just tried another taiyo yuden(on par with verbatims)..and it won't load..going to try again with memorex..burning at 4x with memorex..this is crazy..the most cheapest and crappiest discs are the only ones i've gotten to work so far..try borrowing a memorex from someone and try it..don't burn at 1x's though..try on 4x's with memorex..let you know how my results come out

Success! I got super mario galaxy up and running...using a year old TDK DVD+R, wiigator's launcher, the original backup creator (dos prompt, no gui), and imgburn at 2x. Woot!

*Sigh* .... so I figured out my problem.

The Wii apparently doesn't like any RW discs. Everyone keeps having success with their +/- Rs. :(

Looks like I have to buy some Rs now...
