How to cut the end off an audio file?

It's to use with a slideshow. There seems to be about 5 seconds of silence within the track at the end. So, in the slideshow the music ends but the photos continue for those 5 seconds. I just want to cut the "dead" 5 seconds off the end of the wav audio file and save it to use with the slideshow instead.

I've tried playing around with Nero wave editor and soundtrax but I've given up trying to work it out. Can anyone help me with some simple instructions to do so please?

Load/drag the wav file to Audacity.
Use the mouse to highlight the area to be deleted - use the Magnify tool if required to zoom in..
Use 'View' => 'Set Selection Format' to switch between units (hours:minutes:sec etc)
'Edit' > 'Delete' to remove the highlighted area.
Click 'File' => 'Export as wav' to save file.

I use the latest stable version.

Audacity is the only program you will ever need for all your sound editing chores and with the lame plugin you can also convert to .mp3.
Open source so obviously free.

I had that done "shortly" after being born.
