Went out and bout the I/O Magic Dual DVD+-RW.
Brought it home and the Pinnacle software that came with it wasn't working for me(now I know it was likely my fault).
So I went out and bought NERO 6.
Still cant copy DVD's.
Did some research, found a guide which stated NERO worked well with AnyDVD. Tried that, A couple of errors, a locked up computer, a few wasted disks was all that came from that.
Took a look round here and saw that DVDShrink was widely popular.
So before I check out a few more guides, which products should I use? Should I try and return NERO 6? Is NERO with AnyDVD a good solution and I am just failing in following directions?
I appreciate any advice. I really really really dont want to go out and buy DVDXCOPY like my friends are suggesting since that works for them.
Thanks

try running Anydvd in the background and then use clone dvd to back up your dvd.Anydvd will bypass the CSS encryption and also let you change your region code setting. It works for me and i cant see why it wont work for you

there is also a trial version of both these programs on this site.Try clone before you buy.DVDx copy is alright and as easy to use as clone but if you want perfection get the platinum version .As to returning Nero 6 thats entirely up to you but Nero 6 is still a good program

So is there a process for using Nero 6 with AnyDVD running in the background? I have tried a guide using the Nero Recode option and that wasn't working.

Then don't mate , I'm sure you dont want XCopy splash screen telling you 'this is a back up' at the the beginning of the movie (every time).
There are restrictions built in all over DVDxCopy & I would never suggest it (as you will read).
DVD Shrink works wonderfully well for many , many users & it's absolutely free !
A step by step guide: http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm
(I use DVD2One after DVD Decrypter myself , so I'm not being biased in suggesting DVD Shrink) : ]-~
Nero 6 Ultra is the burning software I use & have no qualms with it's performance ;)
AnyDVD isn't needed IMHO , although I have read that ppl do seem to like it...
Anyway , hope some of this has helped.

herbman is correct in what he says about the flashscreen at the start of the backups but "psidoc" has written a program which can remove this, called 321gone.All the programs mentioned are all pretty good
but in the end its entirely up to "what works for you"

Just joined afterdawn.
Reading your question. I have I/O Magic Dual DVD +-RW 4 times version, not the 8 times that has just been released. Anyhow, I had the same headache, I then purchased Nero 6 Ultra. After DVD Shrink, older version gets finished. No problem burning the movie to DVD-R or DVD+R.

I like useing ANYDVD,with DVDShrink. It Seems to go a little faster as it shows all titles as not encrypted.
Don't know if it is my imagination or not. But the longest it ever took was 40Min..To Ripp & burn,That was Lrd of rings 2 Towers long ass movie.
Does the same w/DVD Decrypter-say VOB not encrypted

I've got a problem though.I burn 2 disks at a time on some Movies for my Son.I know that every once in a while I'll run into a bad disk.Seems though when I do have a bad disk both disks get ruined Nero just reports a failure & quits. Is their something in Nero that I'm missing, that will just disable the bad disk & keep on writing the good one

I personlly Tried Nero and it would not get passed the copyright, Got DVDXCopy Plat and got one splash screen warning about copyrights, Used the simple method 2 clicks and made a perfect copy of a 2 layer 9gig disk onto a single layer 4.7 dvd/r Simplest thing I tried out there so far.

I have been using Nero Ultra and have had not a single problem; however, when I do attempt to burn with a specific media. I get a big fat failed indication - everytime. I have a I/O Magic 4x dual format DVD Writer, has a hate relationship for any Pengo media: DVD-R, DVD+R, or DVD-RW. Co-worker has a plextor and has no problems using Pengo media. DVD Shrink breaks down the video.

What are you on about doc , you should've unencrypted the original DVD files w/ DVD Decrypter (or similar) first!!

Nero supports multiple drive burning & has done since a lot earlier version than Nero 6.
I would hazard a guess at your problem being down to a data transfer error due to IDE cable not being able to tansfer all it needs to...

I would not recommend DVD X COPY PLATINUM. I bought it through a distributor and still haven't been able to get it to work. When you call Techsupport they seem to be more concerned with your registration information then solving your problem. I have used DVDSHRINK and CLONEDVD with no problem. I just bought NERO 6 ULTRA but haven't had a chance to try it yet. As a result of buying DVD X COPY through a distributor I can't return it so I am out $132.00. If you do decide to buy DVD X COPY PLATINUM, I would suggest that you buy it through 321studios so you can return it if it doesn't work. You will notice that the price is higher for the product at 321studios website than buying it at a lower price through a distributor. I believe the price difference is intentional to try and convince you to buy it through somebody else. If it works you can return it and then buy it through a distributor at a lower price.

If you're able to I would think about getting that USB external link changed to 'firewire' firstly & see how you get on after that...
peace ;)

You could well be right - USB 2.0 offers transfers rates up to 480Mbps, while FireWire® has speeds up to 400Mbps (have just read a bit more)
I'm learning about externals now , whereas I dont have a need for it [d'oh]
Have spoken to a few external DVD writer users before in the past & they actually had better results after switching to firewire from USB ...
I guess it could just be a hardware problem that you have in general ;)

Well I just might try Firewire!!My computer has Both,I just don't like to mix & match.
I just reliazed, also that my error on recording 2 DVD's at the same time is with 4x discs not 2x.So it could be a data transfer error at the faster speed THANKS though
