Well I just visited Nero.com to find out what's new.

Quite reasonably, since I only paid for Nero 8 in Feb 2008, I want to know what is actually NEW (as opposed to them adding a slightly changed user interface).

However, I cannot see any new feature list highlighted anywhere on their site. This is not exactly good news. Maybe there is so little new, they didn't want to highlight it. Perhaps they just need the money for a new version to overcome the credit crunch.

Anyone else found out any information what's new?

Also, does the Blu-ray plug-in I bought for version 8 still work in version 9 - or are we expected to pay for an upgrade to that as well? If so, they can take a running jump.....

Per the link that other responders have posted, this appears at the bottom of the page:

"Nero 9 media suite, the next evolution of the always improving Nero line, adds a few notable features, the most important of which is Blu-ray burning which comes for free in this installment."

Of course that still means that the extra you paid for the plug-in disappears from your wallet. The way this reads, anyone who didn't bother paying for it in Nero 8 is still going to get it for "free" in Nero 9.

This may all be moot since the price of that plug-in is just included in the price of the upgrade to version 9. If we upgrade we'll pay for it again - it just won't be line-itemized.

What I'm trying to find out in the other Nero 9 thread (as of now, anyway) is how much crap I'll have to disable before I get to the functions I really want. In the past, whenever I've installed a Nero product I went through the services list and disabled all the nonsense. When running the application suite I also ignored any integrator like StartSmart, Nero Home, etc, as being totally useless (and often buggy). I launched the application tools individually and did just fine running the toolset that way.

So for me, the question about Nero 9 is if the application toolset minus the needless stuff is really an improvement over Nero 8.

Besides, it's just the first release of version 9. There are going to be update patches in the next few weeks and months to correct the obvious defects. It's usually best to wait until some of those are available before making any decisions.

Just my two cents, which right now aren't even worth any copper that might actually be in them.

What me suprised was that Nero 9 has the same bugs like Nero 8....
A normal audio cd cannot be burned with the songs in the order that the user prefers.

And all the other garbage that they put in it to make it bigger but not better ???

Sounds as if there is no real reason for anyone with v8 to pay extra to upgrade to v9; especially if they have already paid extra for the blu-ray plugin.

As I feared, it is just a cynical exercise in generating a new revenue stream. Think I'll stick with what I've already got.

Sorry to say, but the consensus here is that Nero 7 was the most stable

The RIAA Soundexchange Are: SONY, UNIVERSAL, WARNER GROUP, EMI.
The IFPI Are: The same anti consumer lot as listed above!

Chiming in:

I've been using Nero since 5.5 and actully like Nero 8 now that I'm on Vista. It took some tweaking to un-bloat it. Example: I did not install Back It Up, Photo Snap, and a few other programs I have never used. In hindsight, I might go back and uninstall Nero Home as I've never used that either. From what I can gather, neither 7 nor 8 contains the Image Drive for Vista, however, the program will still create an .nrg file. Per Nero Tech Support, they have no plans to add the Image Drive for Vista.

I'm on Vista Business 64bit with 8gigs of ram, so there's no system wide resource issue, however, to be sure, I DID disable the indexing service.

I don't pretend to be an expert, but it seems to me that Nero 7 is better with XP and Nero 8 is better with Vista.

I just found this review at Amazon UK. [I hope it's ok to post here]
NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY REVIEW, BUT THOUGHT I'D SHARE IT HERE [not defend it, just share it].

i would not bother with this!!!!
i bought nero 9 from their website and paid for a disc too.
now i regret it because of a few things.
1: it is exactly the same as nero 8 only nero showtime has a different look.
2: it does not add nero to your pc's autoplay features like the other nero's do so when you insert a dvd etc, your choice box comes up and nero is not there as it doesn't install it. i tried the typical installment and the custom install to try to sort this out but it just was not there.
3: it takes approx half hour to install and uninstall just to give you missing features.
4: there are no template packs but nero doesn't tell you this until after you bought it. they are still working on them now so when i bought this, creating a music dvd with 3d menu's went straight out the window as i have to wait until the templates are released before i can create my disc. bit pointless really as i paid for it and it's just sitting there.
5: when you goto updates at the control centre you will see that the in cd feature is also missing. if you goto the website to install it seperatly it will give it to you for nero 8.
do not waste your time and money on this and just stick with nero 8 or 7 as they are better than this

***EDIT***
I just noticed on the Nero site that templates for 9 are available, however, they must be downloaded through the program interface. Also, In Cd is still available as a separate download - although I've never liked the program.

It also seems that all the HD plugins except DTS are now included in the full version 9 program. In addition, they've added light scribe and label flash to their list of built in options.

9 is starting to look better that it first appeared.
