Using reset button in place of GC Controller

In place of using a Game Cube Controller, I have read that pressing the reset button quickly will change selection and press it a bit longer will accept the selection when updating to config disk for Wii.

I have tried but failed every time as when i press the reset button, the console shuts down and resets. Did I do anything wrongly?

Any advise?

i have only heard of this working when you are in a wiikey menu. I have used it there and it does work. where are you trying to use that? it won't work if you are trying to play a gc game :)

I still play my wii, just not as much. Gave my PSP to my son.

I am trying to use the reset key when I boot up the Game Cube MultiGame Ver Main Menu which shows "Boot DVD" and "Credit".

Everytime I press the reset button quickly, the console goes into reset mode instantly.
