If you wire it wrong it could, like if you were to pull off of the power from your drive they might be able to detect that off live that you are not pulling the right voltage. Most people that do those kind of case mods add additional fans and change the stock air shroud, which makes it run cooler. However if you don't know anything about these things i wouldn't suggest trying it, you could go buy one of those custom shells that they sell online which is just basically a swap.

Yeah that one should be fairly simple to switch out, i'm pretty sure it just borrows power from the dvd connector. As for the case itself there are different versions of it. One is the Chameleon and it changes through a color cycle when powered. Others are limited edition cases and are only one color (red, blue, green). Go to http://www.xcm.cc/360.htm to browse.
I think we should have an ongoing thread dedicated to case modding and such.
Anyway my next project (elite mfr march 08) will consist of these things.
-Blue smd rol
-Xcm v2 blue fans wired to front fan header
-Talismoon blue whisper fan
-Talismoon blue air tunnel
-Talismoon xray window kit.
http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=549063
First adding the fan header to the board so i can run the xcm v2 fans from it.
here's some pics of them
http://www.xcm.cc/xcm_360_core_cooler_version_2_Blue.htm
and the window kit

It should turn out awesome, i'll post pics when i'm finished.

Everyone says it depends on where you pull the power from, though some believe that it really doesn't matter. Yes they could monitor your power usage but really there's no point.
I've case modded a few 360's and haven't had any problem or any reports of being banned. Of course i didn't go overboard on them, but i doubt a led strip is going to throw a red flag.
here's a couple xbox's/360's i've done

I think the replacement cases are the best. There's a couple ones i've been wanting to buy but then i always try different things.
There's a clear blue and a clear red case i planned on using next.
Those would probably be the coolest ones IMO.

If they made a matching blue translucent controller that would be the next project.
I have one regret on the green translucent 360 case, i should have used more leds. At least my buyer got a great deal.

This is my 360 Elite with the white version of the Black knight case and a sickmods fader with the red LED's on ring of lights.. I also have the XCM clear case which looks pretty cool if you don't mind showing off the guts of the 360, some people think the insides of the 360 are ugly but i decided to distract them by putting blue led's in mine. Here are some pics..

Here's my XCM case with led's... I wouldn't recommend this case unless your going to put LED's in there, i think it looks like crap without any lights..Just a matter of opinion i guess, some people like it and some don't..What's important is that i like it and that's all that matters..

I got that blue ocean case off ebay and it's hella nice.
I just got a blue fantasy360 controller to go with it and planning to do the whole lighted controller thing with it.
Nice pics of your work there.

ya is ebay the best place to look ? I really liked that clear one lit up that was nice man, but I may try to get a transparent but the problem is i have a ben q and it seems that all the clear drive cases are only for samsung or Hitachi. I think it would look nasty if I had a bad ass clear case and no clear drive case thats why I liked the idea of Black

If you are planning on fixing more than just one RROD then I recommend going to smallparts.com They are pretty reasonable, ship quickly and have all the screws and washers you will need. Then go to Radio Shack for the AS5.

Hi, i got the case from consolesource and i'm using the aftermarket whisperfans and Corecooler V2.. The led's i used on the inside of the case are surface mount led strips, they are powered by the 12v source underneath the motherboard.. The hard drive has 6 led's in parallel with a 15ohm 1/2 watt resistor, it draws power from the 5v source in the hard drive..

Not very hard at all, how are you with a soldering iron.. You have to solder 2 wires( 12v & ground) underneath the motherboard where the powersupply connects and you have to solder the wire leads to the SMD strips, ground and 12v.. I used 30awg wire for the leads and .015 dia High-Tech Silver-Bearing solder, i got the materials from sickmods.net... What's nice about these strips is that they can be cut in threes plus they have an adhesive backside so you can stick them to the metal case of the Xbox 360. There are several sites where you can find the leds i'm just giving you an example of one which is way too expensive, just do a google search..

Hey ace, i would recommend you give it a shot.. Here are the powersources for the 360 motherboard.. Like i said i used a 12v source which can also be used for installing cathodes. To me this is alot easier then running the leds in parallel or series because you don't have to wory about what type resistor to use and wiring the led legs together...I did 6 in parallel on the hard drive but that's about it, i went with an easier alternative and it came out pretty nice, they are very bright..

Here are some pics of the led strips, you have to apply some solder to the copper contacts for the wire leads as shown by the shiny glob on the strip.. Do not leave the iron on the strip for an extended period of time or your melt the contacts and the plastic right off!! I learned from experience!lol You can cut the strips right along the white lines..

Very nice dude, great work... I've got the core cooler v2 as well, the first core cooler was loud as hell.
