I have had well over 500 backups on my current system and most of them (some in the beginning and some with different discs weren't so hot) have had no problems whatsoever.

I backed up Speed Racer and just tonight Iron Man and both of them with around 20-30 minutes left get really choppy and freeze. Sometimes continuing to run for a few minutes (as in the time still moves but the frame stays the same) before stopping altogether. In past experience with problems similar I could just go to the next chapter, rewind to the spot and play with no problems, minor error.

These are the complete end of the discs that technique does not work. I use latest ANYDVD and Shrink. Shrink is set to custom and 4360MB. I am not multi-tasking at all, just anydvd, shrink and the windows programs running. Using Verbatim DVD+R's, the same ones I have used for the 500+ I mentioned above. Even have used about 50 in the current package I have so it's not a bad batch.

What, if any, suggestions do you more professional people have for me to try and get my copies back to normal.

EDIT: Trying CloneDVD right now with it to see if that makes a difference. Will update you all on this.

EDIT 2: The version for ANYDVD isn't correct I have the very latest.

Since I always seem to ask questions I will just put this into here to help everyone that helps me out....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+, 2.42 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Sony DVD-ROM DDU1615, ASUS DRW-24B1ST a - 1.04 (Firmware)

AnyDVD 7.1.2.0, Shrink 3.2.0.15, Nero 7.10.1.0

The age I am not sure, no more than a few years. The firmware according to Sony's site is up to date with BYX5.

The CloneDVD backup has worked flawlessly. I would like to know what is wrong all of the sudden with my shrink backups.

I don't think it's not the burners problem if a different program can make a good burn but thanks for helping and the suggestion. Might have to go grab a new burner sometime soon.

Shrink does not burn. It needs to be associated with either Nero or dvd decrypter or imgburn. So What is your burning engine ?

Forgot about that detail. Nero. It's what I have also used for the other backups I have done. I think I may have used decrypter like a handful of times when ANYDVD didn't have a fast update for a tough crack and someone else found success using it in the process.

Other than that they have all been ANYDVD, Shrink with Nero.

Actually 6.3.1.19, the version that came with my burner and has not failed me up until these two recent DVD's

It's just odd that I can backup other new dvds but these two have problems. It's not like their compression is insanely high, I do movie only and Speed Racer was around 80 percent IIRC. Iron Man is 88.2%.

Both are fresh installs. My computer caught a cold a few days ago and I had to wipe the drive and start fresh.

No I already said that they backup just the last like half hour of playback is patchy at best. Never got an error message and I run XP Home edition.

Can you borrow an external burner and burn on it to see if the back up is ok ? If yes, then your internal burner is bad, if not, then something else
